Andhra University

The Madras University Act established Andhra University in 1926 to serve the whole Andhra linguistic region. Because the University was the outcome of a protracted fight between the Telugu classes, the Telugu-speaking people have strong emotional ties to it. Not only is Andhra University one of the oldest universities in the nation, but it was also the first to be designed as a residential, multi-disciplinary university. The University is distinguished among its educational staff members and graduates 8 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardees, 3 Padma Vibhushan Awardees, 4 Padma Shri Awardees, 1 Sahitya Academy Award, and many more holders of extremely recognized awards.

History

King Vikram Deo Verma, the Maharaja of Jeypore, was among the University's major donors. Due to a lack of money, the University was about to be moved elsewhere when he gave land and two million rupees for its establishment. He gave the institution 1 lakh yearly, or roughly 17 lakhs, between the 1930s and 1940s. Maharajah Vikram Deo established the Jeypore College of Technology and Science at Andhra University. The institution awarded the liberal king an Honorary Doctorate.

University emblem

Sri Kowta Rammohan Sastri created the University's emblem under the direction of Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy. The rising sun is a representation of the University, and the light rays it emits are those of its academic faculties. Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati sit on a lotus. The swastika represents blessings. The tremendous expanse of information is like an ocean. The two serpents stand for those who seek wisdom and those who guard it.
