B.Ed: Bachelor of Education

B.Ed full form

B.ED stands for Bachelor of Education. It is an undergraduate professional degree for students who want to make a career in teaching. The degree is formerly known as Bachelor of Teaching (BT). The duration of the course is two years. After successfully completing the course, the students become eligible to teach in intermediate and high schools. In India, it is a major prerequisite for any graduate to teach at the high school level.

Eligibility for B.ED

You have to clear the B.ED entrance exam to study for the B.ED course. The students who have completed their undergraduate degrees are eligible for the B.ED exams. For example, students who possess a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com), Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree are eligible for B.ED entrance exams conducted by different universities and colleges in India. The students are also required to have a minimum of 50 % marks in graduation.

It is a skill-based course that focuses on providing all the necessary teaching skills to the students so that they can understand different aspects of classroom teaching. The Arts students are trained to teach history, civics, geography, etc. The science graduates are trained to teach biology, physics and chemistry. The commerce graduates are trained to teach accounting, economics, etc. The course is mainly designed to impart teaching skills and make the students familiar with different aspects of classroom teaching.

After completing the B.ED, the students become eligible for M.ED (Master of Education). The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is the statutory body which monitors the education courses offered by different teacher training institutes in India.

B.Ed Specialization includes B.Ed Hindi, B.Ed Special Education, B.Ed English, B.Ed Computer Science, B.Ed Sanskrit, B.Ed Commerce, B.Ed Psychology, B.Ed Mathematics, B.Ed Economics, B.Ed Physical Education, B.Ed Physical Science, B.Ed Home Science, B.Ed Physics etc.

It should be noted that in order to join a Kendriya Vidyalaya or Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, candidates must take the Teacher Eligibility Tests (TETs) after completing their Bachelor of Education (s)

Online B. Ed

For employment in public and private universities, distance B.Ed programmes that have been accredited by the Distance Education Board (DEB)-UGC are recognised and valid.

The admissions procedure for the online B.Ed. programmes are open all year long and are handled on a first come first served basis. There are occasionally deadlines for batch acceptance.

The candidates have access to a variety of online B.Ed. course providers, including Coursera, edX, Alisson, futurelearn, and many others.

The cost of the online courses ranges from 3,000 to 17,000 Indian Rupees. Even some of the courses are provided without charge.

Coursera provides free online courses, but if students wish to receive a certificate, they must pay the appropriate fee.

Study B.Ed abroad

Candidates must have received at least 60 percent of their graduation grade in order to be eligible to study BEd in overseas colleges. Additionally, the candidates must receive a 65 percent on their 12th-grade exam.

At the time of admission, several universities require candidates to provide documentation of their prior employment/ work experience.

The average annual tuition for pursuing a B.Ed course is INR 16,00,000. Studying B.Ed abroad is expensive. The yearly costs in extreme circumstances can rise to INR 50,000,000.

Candidates can also take advantage of a variety of scholarship opportunities offered by other organisations and universities.

To enrol in the course, students must pass English language competence exams like the TOEFL and IELTS.

Courses and Jobs after B.Ed:

TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher): After completing graduation, you already become a TGT. So, the candidates with a B.Ed degree are not required to do TGT. A TGT can teach upto the 10th class.

PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): The student who is a post-graduate and as well as completed the B.Ed is a PGT. He or she can teach up to the 12th class.

TET (Teacher Eligibility Test): It is an exam which is the minimum eligibility criteria to become a government teacher.

M.Ed or MA Education: One can pursue higher education in education after completing the B.Ed such as M.Ed, MA Education, etc.
