CorelDRAW: Customization

We can customize our application by managing commands and command bars according to our needs. The command bars contain the status bar, property bar, toolbars, and menus.

Saving defaults

We can use various application settings to an active drawing. These contain guideline settings, ruler and grid settings, page layout options, style options, tool settings, web publishing options, and save options.

To save some current settings as the defaults

  • Press Tools > Save settings as default.

To save some specific settings as the defaults

  1. Press Tools > options.
  2. Press Document from the list of categories.
  3. Select the checkbox of Save options as defaults for new documents.
  4. Select those checkboxes that are related to the options we wish to save.

Making workspaces

We can make workspaces for creating more accessible tools that we apply most often. We can open dockers and insert tools to the toolbars. Also, we can delete any workspace that we create. We can reset any default settings if we change any default workspace.

To create the workspace

  1. Press Tools > options.
  2. Press Workspace from the list of categories.
  3. Press New.
  4. Inside the box of Name of new workspace, type the workspace name.
  5. From the list box of Base new workspace on, select any existing workspace over which to base any new workspace.
    • If we wish to add some description of a workspace, type the description inside the box of Description of new workspace.

To create the workspace

  1. Press Tools > options.
  2. Press Workspace form the list of categories.
  3. Select the workspace in the list of Workspace.
  4. Press Delete.

Customizing status bar

The status bar shows information about chosen objects, like the outline, fill type, and color. The status bar also displays the latest cursor relevant commands and position. It shows the information about document color, like proofing status of color, and color profile of the document. We can customize this status bar through modifying information that can be shown and through resizing it.

To modify the information that status bar shows

  1. Press the flyout button near to the shown information and select from the below options:
    • Object details
    • Cursor position
    • Information about selected tool
    • Color information

To resize status bar

  1. Press Tools > Customization.
  2. Press Command bars inside the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Press the Status bar, and select the checkbox.
  4. Fill 2 or 1 within the box of Number of lines when docked.

To resize the items of toolbars over the status bar

  1. Press Tools > Customization.
  2. Press Commands bars within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Press the Status bar, and select the checkbox.
  4. Select the below options from the list box of Button.
    • Large
    • Medium
    • Small

Customizing property bar

We have control on the content and placement of the property bar. We can move the property bar everywhere on the screen. We can manage the property bar by removing and adding tools. It enables us to customize what represents over the property bar if we select many tools. We can also reset this property bar for its various default settings.

To remove or remove the items of a toolbar over the property bar

  1. Press the button, i.e., Quick customize over the property bar.
  2. Disable or enable the checkboxes near to the items that we wish to remove or add.

We can also,

  • Press the button, i.e., Reset toolbox to reset a toolbox.
  • Press the button, i.e., Customize to customize a toolbox.

To rearrange the toolbar items over the property bar

  1. Press Tools > Customization.
  2. Click Commands within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Over the property bar, drag the toolbar item icon to the new position.

Customizing toolbox

We can remove or add tools to the toolbox. When we change the toolbox, we can reset any default settings.

To customize a toolbox

  1. Over the toolbox, press the button, i.e., Quick customize.
  2. Disable or enable the checkboxes.

We can also,

  • Press the button, i.e., Reset toolbox to reset a toolbox.
  • Press the button, i.e., Customize to customize a toolbox.

Customizing toolbars

We can customize the display and position of the toolbar. For example, we can resize or move the toolbar, and we can select to display or hide the toolbar.

The toolbars could be either floating or docked. Docking the tollbar adheres to an application window's edge. Undocking the toolbar drag it away from an application window's edge, so it can be floated and moved around easily.

We can rename, delete, and create the custom toolbars. We can also customize toolbars by arranging, removing, and adding toolbar items. We can adjust the appearance of the toolbar by displaying captions, images, maintaining the border of the toolbar, and resizing buttons. We can also edit the images of the toolbar button.

While performing docking, undocking, and moving toolbars, we can apply the toolbar's grab area.

To remove or add any item in the toolbar

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Select the command category through the list box of the top.
  4. Drag the toolbar item through the list to the toolbar within the application window.

To arrange the items of the toolbar

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Drag the item of the toolbar to any new position over the toolbar within the application window.

To change the appearance of the toolbar

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Press the name of the toolbar inside the list.
  4. Select the size from a list box of Button.
  5. Press the arrow for specifying the values from 1-10 px for the border of the toolbar within the box of Border.
  6. Select any one of the below option from the list box of the Default button appearance:
    • Image only
    • Default
    • Caption to right of image
    • Caption only
    • Caption below image

To edit the image of the toolbar button

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Select the command category through the list box of the top.
  4. Press the toolbar command.
  5. Press the Appearance
  6. Within the options of the Image area, edit the button image.

To unlock or lock the toolbars

  • Press Windows > Toolbars > Lock toolbars.

Customizing menus

The customization features in CorelDRAW enables us to change the menus it includes with the menu bar. We can modify the menu commands and menus order; rename, remove, and add menu commands and menus. Also, we can reset the menus to some default settings. We can search for any menu command when we don't remember that menu.

The options of the customization use to the shortcut menus as well as to menu bar menus that we access by the right-clicking.

If we customize the menu commands and menus, the Help topics which are linked to them don't reflect our changes.

To modify the menu commands and menus order

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Drag the menu over the menu bar towards the right or left within the application window.

To modify the menu commands and menus order

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Select the command category through the list box of the top.
  4. Press the command or menu inside the list.
  5. Press the Appearance
  6. Within the Caption box, type the name.

To remove or add any item over the menu bar

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
    When we wish to delete any item, drag it off from the menu bar.
  3. Select the command category through the list box of the top.
  4. Drag the item to the menu bar.

To remove or add any command over the menu

  1. Press Tools > customization.
  2. Press Commands, within the list of categories of Customization.
  3. Select the command category through the list box of the top.
  4. Drag the command to the menu within the application window.
