CTET: Central Teacher Eligibility Test

CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test. In order to be eligible to work as a teacher in both private and public schools, candidates must pass the CTET eligibility test. Candidates who pass the CTET may submit applications to any private school, government-sponsored school, or even Army school. The most crucial thing to remember is that applicants become qualified to apply for the DSSSB, KVS, and NVS tests.

For the preparation of CTET:

Candidates are urged to only use legitimate textbooks and the NCTE-recommended syllabus when preparing for exams in the field of education.

Describe CTET

In Notifications dated 23 August 2010 and 29 July 2011, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) defined the minimum standards for a person to be qualified to work as a teacher for classes I through VIII in accordance with the requirements of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE Act to be eligible for employment as an educator in any of the schools listed in Clause (n) of Section 2 of the RTE Act, a person must, among other requirements, pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), that will be held by the respective Authority in accordance with the Guidelines set by the NCTE. The following are the reasons why the TET should be considered a prerequisite for employment as a teacher:

It would introduce national standards and standards of excellence for teachers in the hiring process;
It would encourage institutions that train teachers and the students they produce to raise the bar on their performance;
All interested parties would receive a favorable message if the government placed special focus on teacher quality.
The Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi has been given the task of administering the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The CTET Exam Format

CTET comprises two papers: Paper 1 is for those who want to teach primary classes & Paper 2 is for those who want to teach secondary classes.

The topics included in Paper 1's questions are those outlined in the NCERT curriculum for classes I through V. However, the questions' level of complexity can reach the secondary level.
For Paper 2, the topics included are listed in the NCERT syllabus for classes VI through VIII. However, the questions' level of complexity could reach senior secondary.
The CTET is required to apply for both contractual and regular teaching openings.
There are 150 questions in the CTET, worth 150 marks.
The CTET does not use negative markings.
The difficulty of the CTET's questions ranges from moderate to high.
To qualify for the CTET, candidates should secure a score of at least 60%.
Candidates who pass the exam are given a CTET certificate, which is good for life.

CTET Eligibility: Academic Requirements

CTET Requirements: Minimum Qualifications required to become a Teacher for Classes I-V:

According to the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2002, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education by the NCTE OR
Passing the final year of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education programme with at least a 50% grade point average in Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) OR
At least 50% in Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) or appearing in a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)"

CTET Requirements: Minimum Qualifications required to become a Teacher for Classes VI-VIII:

Graduating with at least a 50% grade; passed or appearing in a 1-year bachelor's degree programme in education OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% of the required grades and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education.
A bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or passing or enrolling in a 1-year bachelor's in education (B.Ed). OR
Passing or enrolling in the last year of a 4 Bachelor in Elementary Education programme with at least a 50% grade point average in Senior Secondary (or its equal) OR
Post-graduate with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade and 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed

Application of CTET: Post-Qualification Process

Candidates with CTET credentials may apply for positions as Primary Teachers (Classes 1-8) in:

Institutions connected to the Central Government, including the Central Tibetan Schools, KVS, and NVS.
Schools in union territories are included.
Private schools that take into account and demand the CTET qualification
Schools run by local and state governments will only accept CTET-qualified applicants if their state TET test has not yet been held.

Recall that only applicants who have passed the state TET exam should be taken into consideration by state government schools.

Importance of CTET

The CTET credential is important since it is the minimum eligibility for central government teaching jobs and adds value to your resume.
Candidates can register for any Central Government Teaching posts like KVS, ERDO, NVS Army Teacher, etc. after they receive their CTET certificates.
Candidates are not eligible to apply for teaching employment with the Central Government if he/she does not possess a CTET certificate.

Several private institutions only favor or give preference to candidates who have completed the CTET when hiring teachers.
Many Union regions only wanted instructors with CTET credentials when hiring Regular/Contractual teachers.

Application for the CTET Certificate

The CTET credential may be used at CBSE Board schools, public schools, or schools managed by governmental agencies. All current government and privately funded programmes will fall under CTET.
The Delhi government recently agreed to adopt CTET and would only hire instructors who are certified in accordance with the 2009 Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act standards.
The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) must be passed after completing a B.ed., according to the NCERT's list of minimal requirements for appointment as a teacher in grades 1 through 8.
Holders of a CTET credential may also work as teachers in state-run public schools. Although each state has its own TET exam, all State schools accept the CTET credential.
