Golden Temple of Vellore

It is believed that there are 33 categories of deities in Hinduism. As a result, India has thousands of temples where gods and goddesses are worshipped. This temple is located in the Vellore district, about 175 km away from the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped in this temple. People know this temple by many names, such as Sripuram Golden Temple, Sri Lakshmi Narayani Temple, and Mahalakshmi Golden Temple. In this temple, many people come to worship Goddess Lakshmi every day.

Around 1500 kg of pure gold has been used to build this temple. There has never been such a large amount of gold used in constructing a temple anywhere in the world. Golden Temple of Vellore is a temple whose everything is made of gold from the peak to the pillar and the platform also. You will only see gold in this temple as far as your eyes go. This temple's walls, pillars, frames are all made of gold and the idols of the temple are also made of gold. Every morning from 4 to 8 o'clock, worship and consecration of Goddess Lakshmi are done here, and after that, this temple is opened for all to worship, which is open till 8 pm.

History of Golden Temple of Vellore

Unlike other temples in India, this Golden Temple (Shri Lakshmi Narayani temple) has no ancient history. This temple was built by the Charitable Trust of Vellore Sri Narayani Peedam. This temple was built under the guidance of Sri Sakthi Amma, also known as 'Narayani Amma'. This temple is located in the Malaikodi Hills of the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

The spiritual centre Sripuram is situated in an area of about 100 acres at the foothills of the hills, 7 km away from Vellore, and Sri Lakshmi Narayani Temple is situated in the Sripuram complex itself. This temple was completed in 2007, and this temple was opened for the devotees in the same year. It took only seven years to build this temple, and the cost of building this temple is more than ₹300 crore. There is also a lake on the premises of the temple, its area is more than 100 acres. Everything in this temple is made of pure gold. If we take the name of the Golden Temple, then the Golden Temple of Amritsar comes to our mind but Mahalakshmi Golden Temple is much bigger than the Golden Temple of Amritsar. If we talk about the Golden Temple of Amritsar, also called 'The Harmandir Sahib', 750 kg of pure gold was used in this temple, but if we talk about the Golden Temple of Vellore, then 1500 kg of pure gold was used to construct this temple.

Golden Temple of Vellore is the only temple in the world where such a large amount of gold has been used inside and outside. To make the temple, first, makers converted the gold into a very thin sheet, and then this gold was decorated on top of a copper plate, and at the same time very finely worked by the artisans to make this temple more attractive. This temple looks very beautiful even in sunlight, and due to the glow of gold, this temple looks very beautiful at night.

If anyone is a resident of Vellore, then they will have to go to Thirumalaikodi, 7 km away from Vellore, to visit this temple or worship lord Lakshmi in this temple. But if anyone does not belong to the Vellore district or wants to come here to see this temple, then they have to come first to Vellore to visit this temple.

There are many ways to reach Vellore. You can come to Vellore by bus, train, or flight. You have to take a ticket for Katpadi Junction to come by train, and Vellore is approximately 7 km away from Katpadi Junction. To come by flight, you have to take a ticket for Vellore Airport, located at Abdullapuram in Vellore city. If we talk about the distance of Vellore city from Tirupati, then it is about 120 Km. If we talk about the distance of Vellore from Chennai, then it is about 145 Km and from Pondichary it is 160 Km, and the distance of Vellore from Bangalore is 200 Km.
