History of Golden Temple of Vellore

Unlike other temples in India, this Golden Temple (Shri Lakshmi Narayani temple) has no ancient history. This temple was built by the Charitable Trust of Vellore Sri Narayani Peedam. This temple was built under the guidance of Sri Sakthi Amma, also known as 'Narayani Amma'. This temple is located in the Malaikodi Hills of the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

The spiritual centre Sripuram is situated in an area of about 100 acres at the foothills of the hills, 7 km away from Vellore, and Sri Lakshmi Narayani Temple is situated in the Sripuram complex itself. This temple was completed in 2007, and this temple was opened for the devotees in the same year. It took only seven years to build this temple, and the cost of building this temple is more than ₹300 crore. There is also a lake on the premises of the temple, its area is more than 100 acres. Everything in this temple is made of pure gold. If we take the name of the Golden Temple, then the Golden Temple of Amritsar comes to our mind but Mahalakshmi Golden Temple is much bigger than the Golden Temple of Amritsar. If we talk about the Golden Temple of Amritsar, also called 'The Harmandir Sahib', 750 kg of pure gold was used in this temple, but if we talk about the Golden Temple of Vellore, then 1500 kg of pure gold was used to construct this temple.

Golden Temple of Vellore is the only temple in the world where such a large amount of gold has been used inside and outside. To make the temple, first, makers converted the gold into a very thin sheet, and then this gold was decorated on top of a copper plate, and at the same time very finely worked by the artisans to make this temple more attractive. This temple looks very beautiful even in sunlight, and due to the glow of gold, this temple looks very beautiful at night.
