It begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately 6 weeks before Easter Sunday. Its traditional purpose is to preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, and repentance of sins. The last week of Lent is known as Holy Week. Lent is a very religious festival.
There are some glorious myths are associated with Lent. During the 40 days of Lent, The believers remember the time when Jesus Christ went to desert to fast and pray before starting his work for God. That was the time when Jesus was tempted several times by Satan, but always resisted.
Lent is the time to give up all the bad habits. Christians remember the Jesus Christ fasted in the desert and test the self discipline. Meat, Fish, Milky products, Fats, eggs are restricted to eat in the Lent. Some Christians don’t take the foods that they like most like Chocolates, Cakes etc.
