INS: Indian Navy Ship

INS stands for Indian Navy Ship. The first Naval Force was established in India when India was under the British Empire. Formerly Indian navy was known as Royal Indian Marine, Royal Indian Navy, etc. The Royal navy is the precursor of the Indian Navy, so until today, Indian navy follows some customs of the royal navy.

INS Full Form

At present (2019) there are a total of seventeen Active Indian Navy Ships which are as follows:

  • INS Arighat (S74): It is an advanced nuclear-powered Ballistic Missile Submarine.
  • INS Arihant (S73): It is a nuclear-powered Ballistic Missile Attack Submarine.
  • INS Brahmaputra (F31): It is a guided-Missile Frigate Warship.
  • INS Chakra (S71): It is a nuclear-powered attack submarine.
  • INS Delhi (D61): It is a guided-missile destroyer.
  • INS Kalvari (S50): It is a diesel-electric attack submarine.
  • INS Kolkata (D63): It is a stealth guided-missile destroyer warship.
  • INS Mysore (D60): It is a guided-missile destroyer warship.
  • INS Rajput (D51): It is a guided-missile destroyer warship.
  • INS Sahyadri (F49): It is a guided-missile frigate warship.
  • INS Shishumar (S44): It is a diesel-electric attack submarine.
  • INS Shivalik (F47): It is a stealth frigate warship.
  • INS Sindhughosh (S55): It is a diesel-electric attack submarine.
  • INS Talwar (F40): It is a multirole guided-missile frigate warship.
  • INS Tarkash (F50): It is a multirole stealth air warfare/guided-missile frigate.
  • INS Vikramaditya (R33): It is a conventionally-powered aircraft carrier.
  • Scorpene (class): It is a diesel-electric attack submarine.
