Java Double compare() Method

The compare() method of Java Double class compares two specified double values.

Syntax

Parameters

Two parameters-

d1- The first double to be compared.

d2- The second double to be compared.

Return value

This method will return value -

zero, if d1 is numerically equal to d2.
less than zero, if d1 is numerically less than d2.
greater than zero, if d1 is numerically greater than
d2.

Example 1

public class DoubleCompareMethodExample1{

    private Double doubleValue1; 

    private Float doubleValue2;

    public static void main(String[] args) {

        Double doubleValue1 = new Double("10.56");

        Double doubleValue2 = new Double("10");

        double compare=Double.compare(doubleValue1, doubleValue2);

        if(compare > 0){

            double sub =  (doubleValue1 - doubleValue2);

            System.out.println(doubleValue1 +" is greater. \nDifference is= "+sub);

        }

        else if(compare<0){

            double sub =  (doubleValue2 - doubleValue1);

            System.out.println(doubleValue2 +" is greater. \n" + "Difference is= "+sub);

        }

        else{

            double sub =  (doubleValue1 - doubleValue2);

            System.out.println(" Both are equal! \nAnswer after subtraction is= "+sub);

        }

    }

}

Test it Now

Output:

10.56 is greater.
Difference is= 0.5600000000000005.

Example 2

import java.lang.Double;

public class DoubleCompareMethodExample2 {

    public static void main(String[] args) {

        Double double1 = new Double ("10");

        int compare= Double.compare(double1 );

        if(compare > 0){

            System.out.println(f1+" is greater .");
        }

        else if(compare<0){

            System.out.println(f1+" is smaller .");
        }
        else{

            System.out.println(" Both are equal! ");
        }
    }
}

Test it Now

Output:

Error:(13, 26) java: method compare in class java.lang.Double cannot be applied to given types;
  required: double,double
  found: java.lang.Double
  reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length

import java.lang.Double;
import java.util.Scanner;

public class  DoubleCompareMethodExample3 {
    public static void main(String[] args) {


        Double d1 = new Double("24000");
        Scanner scanner= new Scanner(System.in);

        System.out.println("Enter your Family income");
        Double d2 = scanner.nextDouble ();

        
        int compare = Double.compare(d1,d2);
        if(compare >= 0){
            System.out.println(" You are eligible for the subsidy .");
        }

        else{
            System.out.println("Sorry, You are not eligible for the subsidy.");
        }
    }}

Output:

Enter your Family income
45000
Sorry, You are not eligible for the subsidy
