MIT: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

MIT stands for Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is situated over in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1861 as a private land grant research university. The institute has played a vital role in the enhancement of modern technology and science. Hence, it is on the top of the ranking list of the world's top academic institutions.

The institution's motto is "Mens et Manus" in Latin and translates as "Mind and Hand" in English. The university was founded or established on April 10, 1861, by William Barton Rogers and is 161 years old now. Its chancellor is Melissa Nobles, whereas L. Rafael Reif is the President, and Cynthia Barnhart is the Provost. There is about 1,100 academic staff, for about 12000 students out of which 5000 are undergraduates and 7000 are postgraduates. With an area of about 166 acres, it is a midsize city located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. A weekly newspaper called "The Tech" is published by them.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): History or Past

This institute is privately controlled as a co-ed educational institution and is a centre for scientific and technological training and research. The founder William Barton Rogers, who was also its first president, had worked for years to make up this institute. However, a delay was caused by the American Civil War in the inauguration of the centre. There were just 15 students enrolled for the initial classes in Boston. Later in 1916, MIT was transferred to Cambridge, Massachusetts, alongside the Charles River. The institute has got changed from a technical school to an internationally famous centre for scientific and technological research under the presidency of Karl T. Compton.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology provides the students with courses of graduation and under graduation level. Five academic schools are there in the institute-

MIT School of Science,

MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Science (SHASS).

In addition to this, MIT also includes one college, i.e., Schwarzman College of Computing). However, it does not have any school of law or medicine.

Other programs such as political science, linguistics, economics, urban studies, and philosophy are also well popular. Getting admission to this institute is very competitive, but if received, undergraduate students can often go through various beneficial research.
