NOIDA full form

NOIDA stands for New Okhla Industrial Development Authority. It is a city which was pre-planned and is located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in the district named Gautam Buddha Nagar. It is a part of the National Capital Region (NCR) or territory. The city is looked after by the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA). The headquarters of NOIDA is located in the nearby adjoining city of Greater Noida.

It is the satellite city of Delhi that spans about 1,442 km2. At present (as of 2022) Lok Sabha MP of Gautam Buddha Nagar is Mahesh Sharma. Whereas the present MLA of Noida, as of 2022, is Pankaj Singh of the BJP. The city has become the part of Noida constituency in the Vidhan Sabha and Gautam Buddha Nagar constituency for Lok Sabha, in its political representation aspect.

The city is located 25 kilometers southwest of New Delhi, but not much separated. The planned city is on the banks of the holy Yamuna River in the west and south-west. It is 457 kilometers northwest of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. On the north and northwest is the city of Delhi, in the northeast, lies Delhi and Ghaziabad and the Hindon river lies in the northeast, east and south-east of NOIDA. Noida, which is under the catchment area of the Yamuna River, holds a population of around 1105290, of which 600950 are males and 504340 are females. The soil here is rich and loamy.

History

The region came into existence administratively on 17 April 1976. The day is then onwards celebrated as "Noida Day". It was at the time of the Emergency of 1975 - 77, that the city was established as a part of the Urbanization thrust, by the initiative of Sanjay Gandhi under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. The city region is also classified as the Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The city has the highest per capita income in the whole region of the National Capital Region, fulfilling the cause of its formation.

Climate

The region experiences extreme weather conditions with hot summers ranging from a minimum of 30 °C to a maximum of 48 °C. The months of mid-June to mid-September are for the monsoon. Winters in NOIDA are chilly and harsh with the temperature falling to 3 °C or 4 °C. Similar to Delhi, the fog and smog problem prevails in NOIDA too.

Administration

1. Authority

The NOIDA as an authority was set under the 1976 Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act. The Noida authority is headed by an IAS officer, presently Sanjiv Mittal, as of 2022, said to be the chairman. However, the day-to-day matters of the authority are managed by an IAS officer again, designated as the CEO.

2. General Administration

Basically, a Divisional Commissioner is the head of the local government institutions, and he here is the head of the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, which is a part of the Meerut division. Maintaining law and order along with infrastructural development is the responsibility of the divisional commissioner in his division.

The district administration of Gautam Buddh Nagar is headed by the District Magistrate (DM), who is also a record and revenue collector in charge of the central government. The Chief Development Officer, three Additional District Magistrates/ ADM (Executive, Finance & Revenue and Law & Order), and one City Magistrate are for assistance to the DM. The Gautam Buddh Nagar district is divided into three Subdivisions, named Noida Sadar, Dadri, and Jewar. Each is headed by Sub Divisional Officer.

3. Law Enforcement

The district of Gautam Buddha Nagar has a Commissionerate Police system, which is headed by a Commissioner of Police directly answerable to the DGP of Uttar Pradesh Police.

4. Courts

The Court for Noida was formed in 2012 with 18 total courts in function and is situated at District Court Complex, Surajpur Greater Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

5. Politics

Noida (Assembly constituency) represents the area.

6. Economy

The software and mobile app development companies have developed a hub in NOIDA, in the past decade. The companies such as Microsoft, Arm Holdings, HCL, Samsung and Barclays, have their set up based over here. Their software product contributes to the development and service of the city's economy in foreign money. India's largest startup Paytm has its home in this city only.
