OnePlus Company

OnePlus was created by two persons by the names of Pete Lau and Carl Pei in 2013. Whereas Lau was a previous vice president of Oppo, which is currently a rival of OnePlus, Carl Pei was a computer programmer by profession. To begin with, the two co-founders and the whole OnePlus organization set out to create a phone that "balanced high-end quality with an affordable pricing that was comparable to that of other phones in its class." Of course, their phrase, "Never Settle," now embodies this mindset perfectly.

The concept of "Never Settle" as an idea stems from the belief that customers should not be forced to use a subpar phone just because they do not have a large enough budget to get a better one.

The Philosophy Behind OnePlus OnePlus was founded in August 2013 as a result of a casual coffee-table discussion amongst a group of early workers who were, at the time, just acquaintances. As we sat with our phones on the table, we saw that almost everyone was using an iPhone. The fact that this happened was unexpected since several of us were working for other smartphone makers who were also manufacturing Android phones at the time. Consequently, we questioned ourselves, "Why are all of the folks at this table using their iPhones?"

The fact that we are different does not mean that we would do anything only for the purpose of being different. Everything that is done must be geared toward improving the real user experience in everyday situations. "We're both simply looking to provide the greatest product possible, no matter what."

History

Pete Lau, a former Oppo vice president, and Carl Pei, an ex-Oppo executive, created OnePlus on December 16, 2013. Chinese public documents show that Oppo Electronics is OnePlus' only institutional stakeholder. On the other hand, Oppo Electronics and not Oppo Mobile (the phone maker) is a big investment in OnePlus, according to Lau. OnePlus has acknowledged that it makes use of Oppo's manufacturing line and that it shares a portion of Oppo's supply chain resources with the Chinese company. As a result, the business set out to create a smartphone that would provide high-end features at a cheaper cost than similar models from other manufacturers in the hopes that customers would "Never Settle" for anything less. This is what Lau had to say about it: "For the sake of novelty, we'll never be anything other than ourselves. It is essential that all actions have a direct influence on the user's daily experience." Since the Oppo N1 was Lau's first foray into the platform, OnePlus has signed an exclusive license arrangement with Cyanogen Inc. Amazon has been the company's chosen sales partner for all its smartphones since the debut of the phone. Customers had to sign up for an invite in order to acquire the company's first cellphones, which were sold exclusively to those who had received one. Invites are no longer required to get an invite to a OnePlus 3 flash sale, which was introduced in 2016. A proprietary operating system based on the Android platform, Cyanogen OS, was installed on the OnePlus One when it was initially released.

When OnePlus first started out, the firm had a one-phone-per-year approach, which was amended in 2016 when the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T were both released in the same year, respectively. For its first T-edition smartphone, OnePlus launched the 3T with upgraded hardware and a better front camera. With each consecutive introduction, OnePlus has increased the price of its smartphones by a significant margin. With the introduction of the OnePlus 7 Pro, the firm made its first step into the high-end smartphone market in the year 2019.

On January 23, 2015, Lazada Indonesia became the first retailer in Southeast Asia to carry OnePlus goods, and the company was anticipated to spread across the region that year. OnePlus opted to leave the Indonesian market in June 2016 owing to local rules banning sales of the OnePlus 2 for imported 4G devices.

Since OnePlus acquired Oppo in July 2021, OxygenOS and ColorOS have been integrated into a single codebase. Because of this, future OxygenOS releases should benefit from a more uniform OxygenOS software experience. The software of both firms will continue to be used in their respective areas (OxygenOS for OnePlus phones globally, ColorOS for OnePlus, and Oppo devices in China).
