Java EnumMap remove() method

The remove() method of Java EnumMap class is used to remove the mapping for the given key from EnumMap if the given key is present.

Syntax

Parameters

key - the key whose mapping is to be removed from the map.

Returns

This method returns the old value associated with the given key or null if there was no mapping for the given key.

Exception

Example 1

import java.util.*;
public class EnumMapRemoveExample1 {
   // create an enum
   public enum Tutorial {
    Java, CSS, Python, Android, Javascript
   }; 
   public static void main(String[] args) {
   EnumMap<Tutorial, String>  map = 
                       new EnumMap<Tutorial, String> (Tutorial.class);
   map.put(Tutorial.Java, "1");
   map.put(Tutorial.CSS, "2");
   map.put(Tutorial.Python, "3");
   map.put(Tutorial.Android, "4");	   
   //print the map
   System.out.println("Map: "+map);
   map.remove(Tutorial.CSS);
   //print the map again
   System.out.println("Updated Map: "+map);
  }
}

Test it Now

Output:

Map: {Java=1, CSS=2, Python=3, Android=4}
Updated Map: {Java=1, Python=3, Android=4}

public class EnumMapRemoveExample2 {

   public enum Days {
	Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
   };
   public static void main(String[] args) {
   EnumMap<Days, String>  map = new EnumMap<Days, String> (Days.class);
	
   map.put(Days.Monday, "1");
   map.put(Days.Tuesday, "2");
   map.put(Days.Wednesday, "3");

   map.remove(Days.Thursday);
