Introduction

Mainpat is a hill town located in the northern region of Chattisgarh, India. Mainpat is a popular tourist destination located in the small village of the Surguja district. It is well known among tourists as the "Shimla of Chattisgarh." Beautiful natural landscapes and a forest range surround Mainpat. The area is covered with trees and other plants. It is famous for bird watching, bird tracking, camping, and several places with amazing natural beauties.

The main attraction of Mainpat is the Tibetan Refugee Camps, established in 1962 by the Government of India to help rehabilitate over 1000 Tibetan refugees who fled Tibet after the Chinese invasion in 1959. These camps were located in the area around Mainpat.

Tourist Places in Mainpat

1. Tiger Point

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Mainpat is Tiger Point. There is a distance of around 7 kilometers between Mainpat and Tiger Point. Along the Mahadev Muda River, you may view waterfalls and verdant trees. This waterfall's height at the bottom is 60 meters.

Tiger Point is famous for making tiger noises as waterfalls strike the earth. The locals claim that tigers visited this location for water drinking many years ago. As a result, it is now referred to as Tiger Point. It is one of the lovely places to visit all year round.

The beauty of this place is further enhanced by sitting in the lap of Mother Nature, feeling the cool breeze on your skin, and being surrounded by the lush greenery and mesmerizing waterfalls. There are stairs to go down to Tiger Point Falls. Stairs can access the waterfalls at the bottom. The best time to visit this waterfall is during the rainy season when the water flow is maximum.

Tiger Point Waterfall is located in the heart of the forest. Parking is free if you come by vehicle. You can get tea snacks from a small stand near the waterfall. There is a perfect spot from which you can watch the beautiful river and waterfalls. An examination dam has been built to stop the water flow. Even in the peak of summer, the weather is usually chill. It's one of Mainpat's best spots. People come here to have picnics with their loved ones and to take in the amazing view of the waterfall.

2. Fish Point (Machli Point)

Fish Point is a lovely Mainpat destination. Once more, Manipat is delighted to provide visitors with this stunning beauty. The mist and fog enhance the area's attractiveness and make it feel like heaven. The waterfall is around 50 feet tall, and the vista is breathtaking once you are on the ground.

Fish Point is located in the middle of lush forests and waterfalls, about 17 kilometers from the village center. This location offers breathtaking views of the hills and a river named Machali Nadi, which flows into a waterfall with a remarkable height of 80 meters. The destination was given its name in honor of a particular kind of fish that may be found in the Machali Nadi.

3. Jalpari Point (Budha Naag)

The name of this little waterfall is also Budha Naag. However, some claim it is Jalpari Point. However, getting there is more complicated because it requires a more than 2-kilometer walk from Fish Point. This waterfall is the most stunning in Mainpat; thus, after seeing Jalpari Point, you'll be fascinated. About 17 kilometers from the village, it is nestled among hills. On the fish river, there is a waterfall that flows from a height of around 80 meters, creating a stunning scene.

The local story that once existed here said that Mermaids (Calipari) might be seen. This location's name, Jalpari, was chosen for that reason. Buddha Nag is a religious landmark and a natural water feature in the Mainpat area. It is the best place for tourists to enjoy the wide views and great picnic spots. Every year, Buddha Nag hosts a fair where thousands of people come to pray. On special occasions, the villagers in the village perform the Havana.

4. Dhakpo Monastery

Mainpat is a popular tourist destination, with many tourists visiting to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and delicious picnics. Many Tibetans who sought refuge in India have settled in Mainpat and continue to live there and practice their culture. As a result, Buddhists are very common in Mainpat.

One of the most famous Buddhist Monasteries in Mainpat is Dhakpo Shedupling Monastery, a Gelung monastery. This Monastery differs greatly from other Gelung Monasteries in other parts of the country in its shape, structure, and grandeur. It is the only Gelung monastery that practices Buddhism in Mainpat and is beautiful. When you visit this Monastery, you will notice that it is not very crowded, and you can feel the peace and tranquillity of the monks. Visitors can listen to the monks' prayers in a dreamy atmosphere, and on rare occasions, they can hear the Tibetan bell ringing.

5. Jaljali

It is an interesting area where the earth begins to tremble owing to bouncing on the ground, known as Jaljali or marshy. The soil falls and rises like a ball when entering the Jaljali River region. Because of this, when people leap, the earth trembles like a sponge. This name can be spelled several different ways, including Dal Dala, Jal Jala, Jal Jali, Zal Zala, and Zal Zali. Depending on who you ask, the name appears to be constantly changing.

6. Ultapani

One of the interesting locations in Mainpat is Ultapani. It is a location where the path of the water flow is upward. People come from far away to witness this. This location is in the Mainpat region's Visarpani village. In the past several years, this location has gained much popularity among people. It looks like the water is flowing upward when you visit this location.

The locals have thought this site was haunted for a long time, but as tourism has grown more popular, people's perceptions have changed. However, how much water flows up to the height is still unknown. There was much research here, but researchers all have different viewpoints. Many people think this is merely a vision trick, while others assert that there is more evidence of the force of gravity at work.

Ulta Pani is situated in a way that naturally places it between two hills. As a result, there is a persistent, powerful wind blowing upward. The siphon motion is maintained because of the strong wind's ability to give the water greater speed when it hits the surface.

7. Apple Garden

Chhattisgarh's first apple orchard has red and green varieties available. Himachal Pradesh is known for its delicious apples and beautiful apple gardens. Agricultural experts say that green and red varieties will be grown here as the climate is similar to the state.

In Mainpat, the vice-presidency of the Indian Agricultural University said that the environment in the state is suitable for fruit cultivation. Heavily dependent on the climate in Himachal Pradesh, the state produces Anna apples, Trussed Golden apples, Gelgala apples, and Gipson Golden apples, and all of these apple varieties have been adapted to the climate in Mainpat.

8. Parpatiya

A village called Parpatiya is located around 30 kilometers away from Mainpat. The Parpatiya View Point, also known as Parpatiya, is renowned for its breathtaking sunset views. The sun setting from here is a unique and interesting sight. From here, the nearby hills seem like cubes. The journey up to this point is full of beautiful scenery, so it is a must-see location.

The surroundings and natural beauty of Parpatiya are captivating to visitors. From Parpatiya, one may also observe the Raksamada Caves, Bandarkot Mountains, Dulha-Dulhan Mountain, Shyam Ghungutta Dams, Banrai Dam, and Ramgarh Mountains, among other stunning sights. Visitors may experience paragliding at this location, which the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board has designated as an area for adventure sports.

9. Mehta Point

The location of Mehta Point also called the Mainpat's "Sunrise" or "Sunset Point," is very beautiful at night and early in the morning. The site is beautiful because if the weather is good, you can view another city from this point, but if the weather is bad, you can only see what's right before you. It's amazing to see the view from this point in both conditions.

You can also see from another vantage point the rolling hills covered in green and the vastness of the surroundings from high up. There are a lot of clouds on the top because the viewpoint is high up; you almost feel like you are walking among clouds. Paragliding is a growing activity in this area. It may be done every year between November and February.

While the tourism authority is trying to enhance Mainpat's tourist attractions, it is located near an adventure sports company where you can take paraglider rides, motorcycle rides, and more. The view from this location is beautiful and picturesque, and it has been the location of many Chhattisgarh, Nagpur, and Bhojpuri music videos. The name Mehta Point comes from the fact that an engineer named Mehta discovered and built this point.

10. Thinthini Patthar

The area of Surguja is home to the legendary Thinthini Stone, which is 200 quintals long and has a cylindrical shape. It's located in a small town close to Darima Airport, and it makes a weird sound when it hits a stone that looks like one of those kitchen items. People say both Mahatma and Indira Gandhi visited it. It's a collection of stones that the villagers believe date back to the time of Lord Rama and consider sacred.

11. Ghaghi Waterfall

The waterfall Ghaghi is located near Darima on Ambikapur's Mainpat Road. It is a beautiful hidden tourist spot, but getting there takes a lot of effort due to the poor road access. The road is narrow due to the rain, but it's a beautiful picnic spot. It's the perfect spot for a picnic with your friends and family.

Ghaghi is a little waterfall on the Ghahi River, which continues to join the Ghunghutta Dam. The surrounding forest and lush trees add to the air's freshness. The location is close to Ambikapur through Mainpat Road, and although the last kilometer of the road could be nicer, the spot will lift your mood.

12. Tatapani

Tatapani hot spring is one of the many natural wonders of Mainpat. This tourist spot is 12 km from Mainpat's core and has a long history. According to legend, Shri Ram poured boiling oil on the ground while playing a game during the Ramayan. The oil droplets fell to the ground, forming holes so big that hot water started flowing.

The people of Mainpat worship this hot spring and believe bathing in it can cure diseases and atone for sins. This hot spring attracts many tourists during the Makar Sankranti celebration in Mainpat.

13. Jogimara Caves

If you are a fan of archaeology, then you must visit Jogimara caves. These caves are located in the Surguja area and a few kilometers from Mainpat. These caves date back to 300 BC, and several evidences indicate that people have lived there since prehistoric times.

The paintings of people, animals, flowers, and birds will all have red borders as you approach the cave. One of the oldest attractions of this hill station is Jogimara Cave, which is a must-visit when you are here. You may have to make a short trek to this cave as it is surrounded by forest.

14. Dev Pravah

One of the other naturally abundant places on the hill station where you can get almost everything is Dev Pravaha in Mainpat. It is a creek close to Kamleshwar in the vicinity of Mainpat that flows into an 80m waterfall. The water flows in a snake-like pattern and enters the waterfall. It is a beautiful sight for tourists as the stream of water passes by and shines like pearls. If you come closer, you can see the water moving fast and making a loud, continuous sound. You can also see the sunset from here, which is very beautiful.

15. Mahamaya Temple

The Mahamaya Temple is the most famous Hindu temple in the region. It is located next to Mainpat in the Ambikapur area. Goddess Durga represents the temple's presiding goddess. The shrine is adorned with jewelry, new saris, and other decorations, especially during festivals. The temple is very popular among both locals and visitors. The temple's construction is quite simple, and the atmosphere is peaceful. Several huge banyan trees around the temple provide shade to tourists. You can sit under one of these trees for meditation and peace of mind.

  Swami Vivekananda International Airport is only accessible if you fly from Chhattisgarh. The airport is about 380 km from Raipur, the main hub of the airport. The airport is also close to airports in several states. The nearest airport in Ranchi is Birsa Munda, which is 132 km away. The airport in Uttar Pradesh is located 385 km away from Lal Bahadur Shastri airport.

  Mainpat can be easily reached by road. It has good connectivity to nearby states and cities, such as Raipur, Raigarh, and Jharkhand. You can also travel by car as the roads here are in good condition and offer stunning views. Many government-owned buses run from various places in Chhatisgarh towards Mainpat.

  Ambikapur railway station is the nearest railway station to Mainpat. It is about 58 km away from the geographical center of the hilltop. Since the railway station and hill station are so close together, it is said that taking the train is the most convenient way to reach Mainpat. You can also take public transport from the station to reach your destination. Bishrampur railway station is located 77.8 miles from the Ambikapur railway station, which is 58 kilometers away.
