What is coronavirus?

The word Corona means "Crown." As their structure resembles a Crown under the electron microscopy, they were named as Corona Virus. They have numerous spikes glycoprotein on their envelope, which gives them this crown-like structure. Their genetic material comprises of a Positive-stranded RNA.

Initially thought as a Hoax and a conspiracy by the Chinese authorities and now described as a worldwide pandemic by WHO with no vaccine or any FDA approved Medication. Due to the adverse effect of this Virus, the World Economy is dwindling down, half of the world is complete lockdown, COVID-19 is a virus strain first identified in the meat and seafood market of Wuhan, China in December 2019.

In this world of modern technologies, very little is known about this Virus. What we have known so far is that this Virus is infectious, which spreads by direct or indirect contact from the contagious host, and Its victim growth is in an upward trajectory and no sign of slowing down.

Coronavirus belongs to the family: Coronaviridae.

Subfamily: Orthocoronavirinae.

Order: Nidovirales.

They are classified under four genera of Corona Virus:

• Alpha coronavirus (alphaCoV).
• Beta coronavirus (betaCoV).
• Delta coronavirus (deltaCoV).
• Gamma coronavirus (gammaCoV).

Genomic characterization has shown that probably bats and rodents are the gene sources of alphaCoVs and betaCoVs.

Avian species seem to represent the gene sources of deltaCoVs and gammaCoVs.

Members of this large family of viruses can cause respiratory, enteric, hepatic, and neurological diseases in different animal species, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats.

In Humans:

1. Common human CoVs:

HCoV-OC43, and HCoV-HKU1 (betaCoVs of the A lineage); HCoV-229E, and HCoV-NL63 (alphaCoVs). They can cause common colds and self-limiting upper respiratory infections in immunocompetent individuals. In immunocompromised subjects and the elderly, lower respiratory tract infections can occur.

2. Other human CoVs:

SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2, and MERS-CoV (betaCoVs of the B and C lineage, respectively). These cause epidemics with variable clinical severity featuring respiratory and extra-respiratory manifestations. Concerning SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, the mortality rates are up to 10% and 35%, respectively. The genome of the new HCoV (Covid-19), isolated from a cluster-patient with atypical pneumonia after visiting Wuhan, had 89% nucleotide identity with bat SARS-like-CoVZXC21 and 82% with that of human SARS-CoV.

For this reason, the new virus was called SARS-CoV-2. Its single-stranded RNA genome contains 29891 nucleotides, encoding for 9990 amino acids. Although its origins are not entirely understood, these genomic analyses suggest that SARS-CoV-2 probably evolved from a strain found in bats. The potential amplifying mammalian host, intermediate between bats and humans, is, however, not known. Since the mutation in the original strain could have directly triggered virulence towards humans, it is not certain that this intermediary exists.

Coronavirus Symptoms:

Corona Virus is primarily spread by respiratory droplet, which means one will get affected if someone is six feet near the contagious body or touching the object which has the Virus on it. It spreads from various sources.

The symptoms of COVID-19 can appear as early as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure to the Virus, and it includes Fever, Cough, Flu-like symptoms, and shortness of breath.

Coronavirus Vaccine/Medication:

There aren't any single FDA approved vaccines and drugs to cure this Virus directly. However, the FDA will allow treatment by Plasma treatment from the survivors on a conditional basis.

Coronavirus Treatment:

The patient is mostly kept under complete isolation inside a particular ward, and they are cured with supportive care, such as rest, Fluid dose, and fever relief to relieve symptoms. For critical cases, treatment mostly includes the ICU Intensive care unit to support the functioning of vital organs such as lungs and heart.

Coronavirus Preventive Measures:

We have been repeatedly told by Authority and the expert concerned to maintain the social distance. The best we can do is to stop Viruses from spreading by avoiding Social gathering, unnecessary foreign traveling, and maintaining distance from the crowd.

Most of the country has gone into complete lockdown to avoid gathering and spreading of this Virus since this Virus can spread in one way or another.

The World health organization gives these of some of the preventive measure and instruction:

1. Wash your hand for at least 15-20 seconds with soap and water.
2. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol in it.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unsafe and unwashed hands.
4. Use masks when you are sick and stay at home and isolated from the rest of the family members.
5. Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue and dispose of it properly in the trash.
6. Clean your house with cleansers phenyl and your surroundings.
7. Avoid close contacts.

Effect of Coronavirus on India:

By 04 July 2020, India currently has521 patients, with ten deaths in the wake of the exponential growth of the Corona Virus in India. Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi called off 21 days complete lockdown of the Indian Sub-continent on 24^th March 2020 when IPC section 144 was already implemented on more than half of the country.

Facilities like Railways, Planes, Metros waterways, Roadways, etc. are completely stopped. India had already closed her doors for foreign visitors just a couple of weeks ago, and starting from today, all the domestics flights are stopped.

Effect of Coronavirus on Economy:

Due to the adverse impact of Coronavirus, Malls shut down, Bars and Restaurants closed, Shops other than essential life commodities stores are closed. The Coronavirus had already dwindled down the world economy, and India was not left from its effect either; to put it plainly how it had affected the Business in India. The wealthiest person in India saw its wealth cut by $21Bn due to the crashing of stock markets and losses incurred by the domino effect of the Virus.

By the times it end, Many Company, especially new start-ups, will go bankrupt, and these lockdowns will worst-hit daily wage worker.

Effect of Coronavirus on America:

Half of the American is told to stay at home, their beaches empty, malls shutdown, America already has 2,891,267 cases, and 132,112 deaths, like the rest of the America, world economy have kneeled down to the Coronavirus as well.

The last time it happened was in Great Economic depression in 2008, and it is likely we are heading towards another one of its kind by the times it ends.

Effect of Coronavirus on China:

The epicentre of the Virus "Wuhan" was under complete lockdown, and it was the worst hit in China. Still, the good news is unlike the rest of the world where markets are getting close one after another, China's market is slowly opening to the public. Which is leading to the staunch belief that it was a Chinese conspiracy to conquer the world economy. An American Lawyer has already filed a lawsuit of $20 trillion against the country.

China was the worst-hit until Italy took over recently in terms of deaths.

While China is easing its restriction slowly, The Chinese and Asian look-alikes all over the world are facing racial discrimination because of the Chinese's taste of exotic animals, which will be considered as taboo in half of the world. However, China has recently banned the eating of wild animals.

China is very much under scrutiny for its initial response to the Virus. A Chinese Doctor Li Wangling, who was also the whistle-blower of this Virus, was reprimanded on the charge of creating rumours and disruption among the public, and china kept denying the matter until it became worse.

China Recently made an official and public apology to the doctor's family. There are reports of Violence, Xenophobia, and racial discrimination against Asians among the globe, and it is likely to increase because of the backlash of the Virus.

Effect of Coronavirus on Italy:

With 1,545,458 cases and 63,295 deaths, Italy is the worst Hit by the Corona Virus, and the whole country is under a very strict complete shutdown.

Infection and Deaths: COVID-19 is affecting 215 countries and territories in the world. According to the latest data, more than 11,220,009 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, and the death toll has risen to 529,604.

As per the latest report, this disease has a mortality rate of 15%, and 4% of the people are in critical condition, which translates into 50,598 patients. 96% of the patients are in a mild condition, which translates into 1,990,786, and more than 6,363,717 patients have recovered from the disease.

Severely Affected age groups: Patients who are 60+ years of age are most vulnerable by the disease for the obvious reason. People who have poor medical health history are severely affected by diseases.

COVID-19 has Already affected the lives of thousands of families, and it will change our perception of how we see the world, How nature has its way to restore things. This Virus has its tales and legends; amongst them, the most notable is how humanity has suffered this type of pandemic every 100 years. We suffered from Spanish flu in 1920, Cholera in 1820, plague in 1720.

The positive thing is that there are more recovered cases than the deceased, and the Human trial of the vaccination is on its way.
