BAMS: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

BAMS stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. BAMS is an undergraduate degree programme initiated to familiarise students with Ayurvedic principles and teach them how to apply them to patient care. BAMS combines Ayurveda with the principles of modern medical sciences, and as part of the course curriculum, students are taught a combination of both.

One of the oldest medical systems, Ayurveda has roots in the Vedic era. Its treatments are renowned for the natural ingredients they include and are based on the healing abilities of plants.

The Ayurveda medical system, which is regarded as an alternative kind of treatment, not only treats and prevents illness but also lessens the rate at which illnesses enter the body. Even the World Health Organization has created a global forum for the promotion of conventional medical practices like Ayurveda. As a result, the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programme has provided students with a wealth of exciting opportunities.

The duration of the course is five years.

Minimum qualification required: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Medical Stream)

Exams Accepted: NEET, OJEE, KEAM, etc

What course contains

The BAMS course curriculum contains an in-depth study of Ayurved topics along with the study of modern anatomy, the principle of modern medicines, the principle of surgery, ENT, pharmacology and many more. Ayurveda is an ancient medical system of India. It not only talks about the cure but also provides solutions to prevent the recurrence of diseases. According to Ayurveda, the illness or diseases arise due to three types of dysfunctions in the human body; Kapha, Pitta and Vata.

Thus, this course has a unique combination of ancient Ayurved and Modern Medicine. This facilitates the BAMS graduate to use modern medicines as well as ayurvedic medicines in practice.
