Central Teacher Eligibility Test

Notifications dated August 23, 2010, and July 29, 2011, were delivered to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) following the sub-section of Section 23 of the R.T.E. Act, outlining the minimal conditions for eligibility to teach Classes I through VIII. This is directed to the structure of the CTET. An essential condition for employment as a teacher in any institution referred to in clause (n) of the Education Act is passing the TET, which is administered following NCTE Guidelines (R.T.E. The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), conducted twice a year by the CBSE, Delhi, is administered by the national Ministry of Human Resource Development. The exam is complicated as the qualifying rate is 1-14% in the exams held.

To achieve the following goals, the TET was declared a requirement for hiring a teacher:

• To develop a nationwide standard for teacher recruitment and quality.
• To promote the continued advancement of student and institution performance standards in teacher preparation programs.
• To convey the government's emphasis on teacher quality in particular.

State-wise TET

The weighting for the District Selection Committee (D.S.C.) teacher selection entrance exam for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is 20%. The 2012 test attracted almost 4 lakh applicants. The Andhra Pradesh TET exam was administered in numerous test centers in February 2019 to thousands of applicants.

Uttar Pradesh

The TET exams (UPTET) are administered by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board once a year to choose primary and junior teachers. Two papers make up the UPTET written exam, and either candidate may take both papers.

On November 28, 2021, the UPTET 2021 exam was administered by UPBEB in 75 districts throughout Uttar Pradesh in two shifts. But later, the exam got postponed because of paper loss. The second exam took place on January 23, 2022, and the results were announced on April 9, 2022. In 2016, there were two shifts on December 19 for the UPTET written exam. In 2017, the written test was held on October 15 after UPBEB published its examination announcement on August 22.

The UPBEB notification was published in 2018 on September 15, with applications opening up on September 17 and the written test taking place on October 28.

Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education conducts the RTET, or Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test, for prospective teachers in the state of Rajasthan (RBSE).

Two times a year, Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher Eligibility Tests are administered.

Candidates must answer one hundred fifty questions in two hours and thirty minutes. Five sections comprise the Level 1 examination paper, and the Level 2 examination paper comprises four sections.

Haryana

The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) periodically administers the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) for the Primary (P.R.T.), Trained Graduate Teacher (T.G.T.), and Post Graduate Teacher categories of school personnel (P.G.T.).

Until 2009, the examination was known as the State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET). It was renamed the HTET in 2011 as per the R.T.E. Act, 2009, following the NCTE's notice.

Three categories make up the examination:

Level I: For teaching Classes I-V(P.R.T)

Level II: For teaching Classes Six through Eight (T.G.T.)

Level III: For teaching graduate-level courses (P.G.T.)

The HTET qualifying certification is accurate for seven years from the examination date.

There is no cap on the number of times a candidate may take the exam, and those who have already earned the HTET/STET qualification are eligible to retake it to increase their score.

Punjab

PSTET, also known as the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test, is administered by the Department of School Education, Punjab. For applicants seeking to become teachers with the Punjab School Education Board, the PSTET is divided into two separate exams:

Paper I: for hiring teachers from Grades 1 through 5.

Paper II: for hiring teachers for classes sixth through eighteen.

Through the Punjab School Education Board's official website, qualified individuals submit applications to take the PSTET.

Maharashtra

A teacher eligibility test (TET) at the state level is administered by the Maharashtra TET (MAHATET). Teachers interested in teaching classes 1 to 8 in Maharashtra schools must pass the MAHA TET, commonly known as the Maharashtra TET (Teachers Eligibility Test), administered by the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE).

The MAHA TET test has two levels: primary (paper 1) and upper primary (paper 2). Candidates must adhere to the MAHA TET paper 1 if they wish to teach classes from 1 to 5. Candidates who want to teach grades from 6 to 8 must appear for MAHA TET exam paper 2. Candidates must appear for Papers 1 and 2 if they intend to teach classes from 1 to 8.

How do I apply to take the TET?
