Advantages and Disadvantages of Hostel Life

The most important stage of our lives is hostel life. One who hasn't lived in a hostel is still immature. Students can develop their independence and responsibility at a hostel. Many college students who come from other cities to attend their college reside in a hostel. When living with your parents, it is sometimes hard to establish a feeling of responsibility. You learn much about collaboration, assisting your roommates, togetherness, and adaptability from living in a hostel. A student who lives in a hostel interacts with several other students who are similar in age and outlook. It may have both negative and positive effects. Yet this is when people start to learn how to make decisions.

There are several benefits to living in a hostel. But it also has serious drawbacks that can destroy a student's life.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Hostel Life

Advantages of Hostel Life

Become more independent:

Being self-sufficient is crucial for students so that they can start their careers and live happier lives as independents. This trait is useful, especially when you're away and wish to maintain your independence for the rest of your life. Homes are full of pleasures, and your parents provide you with all you require. However, hostel living pushes you to perform activities on your own. Living in a hostel imparts valuable lessons, from managing work to accepting self-responsibility. The benefits of hostel living include acclimating to an unfamiliar environment and taking care of oneself.

Allows you to build friendships:

Being apart from your family doesn't make you powerless. On the other hand, certain friends will significantly impact your life. You may talk about your studies and share your issues with them. You also prefer to feel compassion for someone you didn't previously have as new connections are formed in the hostel environment. Over time, you would probably develop emotional ties with your housemates. After graduating, you will remember these occasions.

Discipline:

The nicest aspect of living in a hostel is that the institution or university's authority is maintained and cannot be subverted by students. Everything has a set time, including waking up, going to bed, attending lectures, and studying late into the night. The greatest way to maintain your discipline is via meals. Students learn positive behaviors by imitating others. One student will impact many students if they get up earlier in the morning & exercise.

Everything you require is nearby:

Near hostels are bakeries, gyms, playgrounds, libraries, & even washing machines. The main advantage of living in hostels is having access to all essential amenities close at hand. You don't have to waste energy and time traveling far to acquire what you need. You may adjust your schedule to suit your tastes when you live in a hostel. Likewise, you are free to start studying whenever you like.

No Disturbance:

Without any other distractions, one may learn better. Hostels offer the ideal study environment for students. As a result, you receive higher exam grades.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Hostel Life

Disadvantages of Hostel Life

Ragging:

Students arriving in the hostel initially experience challenges and ragging from seniors. There are still certain campuses where ragging occurs, even though it is officially recognized as a criminal offense at colleges and universities.

Inadequate facilities:

Lack of services may frequently disappoint you because much of your time at a hostel is not private. To reside in a hostel, you must adhere to certain restrictions. There is no need to dispute the services you are receiving, including meals and restrooms. If you can't live without an air conditioner, you have to get used to that too. There is no option but to eat if the meal doesn't taste well enough. The standard of living is far lower than at home.

Loneliness:

Leaving home comforts, living with strangers who don't speak your language, eating terrible food, and being ill. All of these events might make you feel alone all of a sudden. Students suffer from continuous loneliness because of the lack of love and care only parents can provide. Even though the hostel mates attempt to look after one another, they cannot look after like the parents. It's natural to feel alone and powerless in such situations. As a result, many students leave college early.

Bad Company:

In the hostel, it's easy to meet unsavory people and develop undesirable habits that might develop into addictions. You become more reckless when you don't have a family member to tell you what's nice and what's not. The effect of terrible students can be detrimental to other students. Watching a late-night movie, smoking, & drinking not only harm your health but also causes you to lose focus on your academics. There are bad friends among nice friends. One of the major downsides of hostel living for parents and students is that you might not have nice company.

Difficulty adapting to new surroundings:

A tiny room with three to four beds might make adjusting to a new environment challenging. Additionally, for introverts who like a peaceful lifestyle, downsizing from a large personal space to a tiny one might be challenging. When students move away from their parents, many have emotional difficulties. So even while living in a hostel gives you independence and freedom, you might have to cope with the stress of being alone for a long period.

Life in a hostel is Expensive:

The costs are only one of the numerous drawbacks of life in a hostel. The price of going to college and finding housing is something that only some can afford. Hostel costs might add up to a significant sum you must pay in advance when combined with tuition, entrance, and registration fees.

Problem with diet:

The diet issue is one of the major issues that the students deal with. The usual food offered in a mess is difficult for many students to digest. Students frequently order food from outside, which is riskier for their health. For improved amenities, several university hostels charge students extra. Additionally, parents often spend more when they are anxious about their children's safety.

Concentrating is difficult:

In the youthful and lively college atmosphere, it might be challenging to focus on studies. Although parents send their children to the hostel to study, they spend their time there having fun and getting drunk. Also, sleeping late may make it difficult to focus the following day in class.

The Conclusion

Everything in the world has both positive and negative consequences. However, it depends on how well-educated and morally discerning your child is. The finest location for a student is in a hostel, and hostel life is the best stage for those who can overcome all the disadvantages & maximize the advantages. A new life begins in a hostel, where we meet new people and appreciate the little things. They will realize those were the finest moments of their lives when they look back.
