Java Float isFinite() Method

The isFinite() method of Java Float class returns a Boolean value for the specified float object f. This method returns true if the argument passed is a finite floating-point number else returns false for NaN and infinity arguments.

Syntax:

Parameters:

The parameter passed is 'f' which is of float type.

Return Value:

This method returns a Boolean value for this float object.

Returns true, if the argument passed is finite floating-point number.
Returns false, if the arguments passed is Nan or infinity.

Example 1

public class FloatIsFiniteExample1 {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        float f1 = 578648.67f;
        Float f2 = new Float(f1/0);
         if(Float.isFinite(f2)){
             System.out.println("Value returned is : " +Float.isFinite(f2));
         }
         else{
             System.out.println("Value returned is : "+Float.isFinite(f2));
         }
    }

}

Output:

Value returned is: false

Example 2

public class FloatIsFiniteExample2 {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        // will return true
        Float f1 = new Float(0X7f800000);
        System.out.println("Returned result = "+Float.isFinite(f1));

        Float f2 =new Float(76E-43);
        System.out.println("Returned result = "+Float.isFinite(f2));
        //will return false
        Float f3 =new Float(f1/0);
        System.out.println("Returned result = "+Float.isFinite(f3));

Example 3

public class FloatIsFiniteExample3 {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        float f1 =687f;
        Float f2 = new Float(f1);
        boolean val=f1.isFinite(f2);
        System.out.println(val);

    }
}

Output:

Error:(7, 23) java: float cannot be dereferenced

Here, float is a primitive data type. We cannot use its object to call Float class methods. Also isFinite() is a static method so, it should be called with the class name i.e. Float
