  • It provides facilities and services like a gym, tennis court, riding stables, etc. A typical day at the academy often begins at 6:00 AM with a 6- to 10-kilometer jog or an hour-long training drill at the Polo Ground. The students may choose to ride at that time. They will then have an hour to prepare and eat breakfast.
  • They start their classes at nine in the morning. There are approximately 5-6 classroom sessions every day, each lasting 55 minutes. Sports and riding events take place from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

The idea for LBSNAA was introduced on April 15, 1958, when Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the Union Home Minister at the time, declared that a training facility would be established for Civil Service Officers. The first group of officers was taught at Metcalfe House, where the training facility was established on September 1st, 1959. The name of the academy has, however, been altered twice. It changed its name to Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration in October 1972. It was renamed the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in July 1973. (LBSNAA).

  • With 115 officers, the first class of officers' training got underway at Metcalf House in Delhi on April 13, 1959.
  • The first hotel constructed in this hill station was the Charleville hotel, where the academy first opened its doors in Mussoorie.
  • NICTU was founded in 1988.
  • The National Society for Promotion of Development Administration Research and Training (NSDART), presently known as the National Institute of Administration Research, was founded in 1989.
