LBSNAA Stands for Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy Of Administration. It is one of India's top training facilities for civil service, and it is situated in Mussoorie. It is an associated office of the Government of India's Department of Personnel & Training and is run by a Director (an officer with the rank of Secretary). For those who wish to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Royal Bhutan Service, it offers a common Foundation Course for applicants to the All India Services, Indian Foreign Service, Group 'A' services of the Union, and the Royal Bhutan Service. Following this, professional training is provided for these individuals.

The main goals of the academy are to teach IAS cadre government employees and to deliver the Group-A Central Civil Services Foundation Course. The trainee officers of the IAS cadre receive an MA in Public Administration from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University after completing their training. Since 1985, it has operated under the supervision of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. Aspiring IAS officials' ideal destination in LBSNAA.   • It provides facilities and services like a gym, tennis court, riding stables, etc. A typical day at the academy often begins at 6:00 AM with a 6- to 10-kilometer jog or an hour-long training drill at the Polo Ground. The students may choose to ride at that time. They will then have an hour to prepare and eat breakfast.
  • They start their classes at nine in the morning. There are approximately 5-6 classroom sessions every day, each lasting 55 minutes. Sports and riding events take place from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
  • In the instance that there are any cultural events, they are arranged before dinner, which is at 8:00 PM.
  • The IAS trainees participate in extracurricular activities including community service, adventure sports like rock-climbing and paragliding, as well as shorter treks and river rafting, over the course of the weekends and vacations while undergoing training.

The idea for LBSNAA was introduced on April 15, 1958, when Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the Union Home Minister at the time, declared that a training facility would be established for Civil Service Officers. The first group of officers was taught at Metcalfe House, where the training facility was established on September 1st, 1959. The name of the academy has, however, been altered twice. It changed its name to Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration in October 1972. It was renamed the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in July 1973. (LBSNAA).

  • With 115 officers, the first class of officers' training got underway at Metcalf House in Delhi on April 13, 1959.
  • The first hotel constructed in this hill station was the Charleville hotel, where the academy first opened its doors in Mussoorie.
  • NICTU was founded in 1988.
  • The National Society for Promotion of Development Administration Research and Training (NSDART), presently known as the National Institute of Administration Research, was founded in 1989.
  • A four-month Foundation Course is offered at LBSNAA to those who are chosen through competitive Civil Services Examinations. All of the trainees are introduced to the concept of "equality" in this course.
  • The academy is collaborating with prominent think tanks and Ivy League research institutes to offer the most thorough knowledge base for training.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the cornerstones for the 400-meter synthetic polo field track, the new dormitories at Monastery Estate, the horse stables, and the homes for the riding school in 2017.
