Although they have never won the IPL, the Royal Challengers came in second place 3 times between 2009 and 2016. With totals of 263/5 and 49, respectively, the squad owns the record for the highest and least totals in IPL history.

Team History

The Indian Premier League, a Twenty20 tournament that began in 2008, was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in September 2007. The teams for the competition, which included Bangalore & others and represented 8 different Indian towns, were auctioned off in Mumbai on February 20, 2008. Vijay Mallya spent 111.6 million dollars to acquire the Bangalore franchise. It was the 2nd highest offer for a franchise, just below Reliance Industries' 111.9 million dollar offer for the Mumbai Indians.

Team Identity

Name

Vijay Mallya wished to connect the franchise to promote one of his best-selling liquor lines, perhaps McDowell's No. 1 or Royal Challenge. The name comes from the choice of the latter.

Logo

The earliest version of the logo included the RC insignia in yellow on a round red base, surrounded by the black phrase "Royal Challengers Bangalore'' in a standardized way. The only notable modification to the logo's design since 2009 was the substitution of gold for yellow colour. The RC insignia was also encircled by a dotted white circle in the logo. The original Royal Challenge design served as the inspiration for the RC crown insignia with the roaring lion at the top.

For the Game for Green games, the team usually uses a different logo with green plants surrounding it and the words "Game for Green" underneath it.

In 2016, the logo underwent a revamp, adding black as a secondary colour. In the revised version, the shield was removed, and the lion symbol on the top was enlarged and modified.

A new design with a larger lion and the crown from the former emblem was released in 2020. For this design, the RC emblem (text) was not included.

Jersey

The team's 2008 uniforms included player names printed in white on the front and numbers printed in black on the back. In later seasons, gold was introduced in place of yellow. Blue was added to clothing as a third colour at the beginning of 2010.

Every season brought changes to the jersey appearance, with the biggest change occurring in 2014 when blue predominated over gold. The player numbers and names started appearing in gold printing in 2014.

Since 2015, the gold found on the shirts has been more yellowish. In the two variants of the shirt, one for home games and another for distant matches, black colour was replaced with blue as the tertiary colour in 2016. A colour between dark blue and black was introduced in 2020 to substitute black.

Kits Manufacturers

From 2008 through 2014, Reebok produced the team's kits; in 2015, Adidas provided them. Since 2016, Zeven has been producing the team's kits.

Song or Anthem

"Jeetenge Hum Shaan Se" served as the team's anthem for the 2008 season.

For the 2009 campaign, "Game for More" was written as the team song. Anshu Sharma wrote the lyrics, and Amit Trivedi created the music.

For the 2013 campaign, a brand-new song called "Here We Go The Royal Challengers" was written, and it was played up until 2015.

Salim-Sulaiman and Siddharth Basrur collaborated on the "Play Bold" song, which was released in 2016 alongside the season's jerseys. Anand Bhaskar recreated the same song for 2017 and sang it in six languages.
