How to Create Cost Centre in Tally ERP 9

In this section, we are going to learn how to create, display, and alter the cost centre in Tally.

Enable Cost Centre in Tally

To enable a cost centre in Tally ERP 9, make the following configuration settings. By enabling a cost centre in accounting features, helps us to create cost centres under account info. Use the following step to enable the cost centre.

Step 1: Use the following path to enable cost centre in Tally:

Gateway of Tally → F11: Features → F1: Account Features

Step 2: Enable the option to Maintain Cost Centre as "Yes".

Step 3: In Tally ERP 9, click A: Accept to save the changed details.

How to Create Cost Centre

Use the following path to create cost centre in Tally:

Gateway of Tally → Account Info → Cost Centres

Step 1: Click on Gateway of Tally and then click on Account Info.

Step 2: Under Account Info, click on the "Cost Centre" option.

Step 3: Now, click on the option 'Create' under Single Cost Centre.

Note: Choose the option 'Create' under multiple cost centres if we want to create multiple cost centre in Tally.

Step 4: Update the following details on cost centre creation screen:

Category: Tally can automatically create primary cost centre. The primary cost centre is the default cost centre until we create a new one. Choose Primary cost centre as category.

Name: Specify the name of the cost centre.

Alias: We can call the cost centre using the other name like Branch, Head Office, etc.

Under: From the list of cost centres, update the parent cost centre for this cost centre.

After entering the required details for the creation of the cost centre, choose option A: Accept to save the details.

How to Display Single Cost Centre

Use the following path to display a single cost centre in Tally:

Gateway of Tally -> Accounts Info -> Cost Centres -> Single Cost Centre -> Display

Step 1: On the screen of the cost centre, choose the cost centre under the list of cost centres.

Step 2: Now, the cost centre will display with details.

Step 3: Users are not allowed to modify the cost centre details on display mode.

How to Alter Single Cost Centre

Use the following path to alter single cost centre in Tally ERP 9:

Gateway of Tally -> Accounts Info -> Cost Centres -> Single Cost Centre -> Alter

Step 1: To edit the details choose the cost centre under the list of cost centres.

Step 2: On the cost centre alteration screen, choose A: Accept to save the updated details.
