OpenAI and ChatGPT are the two buzz words trending in the tech world these days. This tutorial explains what these words represent?

OpenAI

OpenAI is an AI research lab found on December 11, 2015 by Sam Altman, llya Sutskever, Greg Brockman, Wojciech Zaremba, Elon Musk and John Schulman. It consists of OpenAI LP, the for-profit organization and its parent company OpenAI Inc. which is a non-profit organization. The motive of the company was to develop a human friendly AI that can benefit the humanity. In just four years, the lab was a success; it became one of the leading AI research labs in the world.

AI is taking over all the industries already like Electricity did 100 years ago. A lot of scientists like Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk predicted that in the future AI could dominate the world and take over the humans. OpenAI was found to be the first to create AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). AGI is like the friendly version of AI. A robot or a machine developed with AGI will have learning and reasoning powers of a human mind.

The organization was found in San Francisco and the research done and the patents acquired are open to the public. It is also open to collaborate with other institutions and researchers. The ultimate goal of the organization is to eliminate the AI threats and develop it in a safe way that is solely beneficial to the humanity as a whole.

The organization started as a group of nine leading AI researchers who are the best in their fields. Elon Musk's idea was to make every single person in the world aware of AI. He acknowledged that if everyone has some AI, then there would be no set of individuals with AI super power because everyone already has it. But, the idea was controversial. In Nick Bostrom's words, "If you have a button that could do bad things to the world, you don't want to give it to everyone". Amid the controversies, in 2016, the organization stated that not all the source code is going to be released and the goal of OpenAI was set to doing the best thing there is to do.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT stands for "Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer". It is a chatbot developed by the team of OpenAI in November 2022. After the release of ChatGPT, the value of OpenAI went to 29 billion dollars. It was built on top of the GPT-3 family. The goal was to build a language model that can respond like a human dialogue to dialogue.

It is a language model developed to interact with humans conversationally dialogue to dialogue. From a content writer to a coder, ChatGPT helps us all. It can answer our questions from simple guidance to bugs in programs. It can even give content about a specific topic.

ChatGPT has been a very helpful tool to people from different industries. It made learning a lot easier with all the answers right at the doorstep but there are a lot of complaints like students using ChatGPT to complete the assignments without putting in any self effort.

There are also complaints saying it gives erroneous codes when asked. It is banned in different countries like the Chinese banned the website in fear of it providing uncensored answers to politically sensitive questions. New York City, the department of Education has also banned the application on January 4, 2023.

The amount of people using ChatGPT across the world at a given time is vast. Hence, at times, it might not be able to respond due to the tightness of the traffic. Also, if you have used the platform for an hour or so, sometimes, it might give a notification, "Too many requests in an hour", you'll need to wait for some time before accessing again.

• If it gave a wrong answer somehow or an erroneous line in a code, it apologizes and gives the corrected version again.
• The dialogue based communication makes it like a conversation with an expert in every field.
• It is limited to data after 2021 only. It can't specifically answer every general question and for some sensitive questions, it mentions it can't answer to that question.
