It was one of India's early information technology enterprises created in 1976. It is a survey of modern computing, including the launch of 8-bit microprocessor computers in 1978.

Shiv Nadar launched a personal computer company in 1976 with a group of six engineers who were all former Delhi Cloth & General Mills workers. The members of Nadar's team included Arjun Malhotra, Ajai Chowdhry, DS Puri, Yogesh Vaidya, and Subhash Arora. Nadar and his colleagues began selling digital calculators to acquire funds for Micro comp Limited's main product.

Following this, on August 11, 1976, the company's name was changed to HCL or Hindustan Computers Limited. Then, on November 12, 1991, HCL Overseas Limited was established as a technology development services provider. It started operation after establishing a business on February 10, 1992.

Two years later, in July 1994, the firm changed its name to HCL Consulting Limited and subsequently to HCL Technologies Limited in October 1999. HCL Technologies is one of HCL Corporation's four subsidiaries, HCL Infosystems.

After that, HCL introduced HCL Healthcare in February 2014. HCL TalentCare is the company's fourth and most recent program.

HCL Technologies originated as the research and development arm of HCL Enterprise, a corporation that helped India's IT and computer sectors expand and develop.

HCL was founded by Shiv Nadar. Shiv Nadar is a millionaire industrialist and social activist from India. His companies include HCL and the Shiv Nadar Foundation, of which he is the founder and chairman. Nadar was born in Mullapoji, a village in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district, around 10 kilometers from Tiruchendur.
