History of IBM

The IBM Corporation was founded in Endicott, New York, in 1911. CTR (Computing-Tabulating-Recording) was the company's name at that time, and it was based in New York. In reality, on June 16, 1911, Charles Ranlett Flint merged four of his enterprises in New York State to form the CTR (Computing-Tabulating-Recording) corporation, situated in Endicott, New York.

IBM was first listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1911. The Senior CTR was joined in 1914 by Thomas J. Watson, a former National Cash Register Company employee.

CTR's name was changed to "International Business Machines" in 1924 due to this. IBM purchased the patents for an electric typewriter in 1933 and released a better version of the typewriter in 1935.
