Gujarat University

Gujarat University is a public university situated in Ahmedabad, Gujrat. It was founded in 1949. The university's motto is Excellence in action is Yoga.The university's chancellor is the Gujarat Governor, and the Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Himanshu Pandya. Dr Jagdish Bhavsar occupies the office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor. It has 169 academic staff. The campus is spread across 300 acres of area. The university has evolved and developed immensely in the last 67 years and falls into an elite university category.

Gujarat University

Gujarat University has evolved from the Ahmedabad Education Society. Many leaders like Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar, Anandeshankar, Sardar Patel, and Mahatma Gandhi suggested the construction of the university in 1920. Ahmedabad Education Society was considered one of the major educational institutions at that time. The university came into existence when a committee under Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar suggested rearranging university education in Bombay state.

Later, many universities came into existence, implying a decrease in the jurisdiction of Gujarat University. Many universities came out of Gujarat Universities like Saurashtra University, Sardar Patel University, Bhavnagar University, Gujarat Agricultural University, North Gujarat University, South Gujarat University, Gujarat Ayurveda University, and Gujarat Agricultural University.

Around 3,00,000 students take education in the courses, affiliated institutes, and faculties. Affiliates include 20 recognised institutions, 35 approved institutions, and 285 colleges. It has 221 P.G. Centres and 34 Post-Graduate University departments. Emblem

Gujarat University's emblem exhibits the cultural heritage and the aspirations and characteristics of the people of the State. The dominating symbols are the sculptural architecture resting on two lamps, a dancing peacock, and a lamp suspended from its centre. The dancing peacock represents the rider and Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning; according to Hindu Mythology, it exhibits the people of Gujarat's affection for the arts and her dignified aesthetic taste. The architecture represents the notable features of sculptures of Gujrat and its immense vibrant culture and heritage. The two pillars exhibit culture, which stands for solids like a rock. The lamp, situated at the centre of the architecture, symbolises learning that takes away darkness from one's life and enlightens the mind. The atomic and lightning at the top of the rectangle represents scientific progress and the flash of genius.
