Plan B Alternatives

What is Plan B?

The Food and Drug Organization has approved the over-the-counter (OTC) emergency preventive Plan B One-Step (levonorgestrel) (FDA). When people engage in sexual activity without using contraception, Plan B One-Step, often known as a next-morning contraceptive, can prevent pregnancy. Plan B does not halt a planned pregnancy and does not protect from physically transmitted illnesses.

For optimum results, a person should accept it as soon as possible after participating in sexual contact without using a condom or another sort of conception prevention barrier, or again in the case that contraception has failed.

How Does it Work?

The FDA says there are two ways Plan B can function:

  1. Stopping the ovary from producing eggs
  2. Preventing a ready egg from being embedded in the uterus

Plan B stops the ovaries from producing an egg. Thus there will be no pregnancy since the sperm won't have anything to prepare for. If sperm prepares an egg, Plan B One-Step prevents the prepared egg from being embedded in the uterus, rendering conception impossible.

However, the medication won't work if a fertilized egg implants in the uterus before someone takes Plan B. Anyone who suspects they could be pregnant should consider speaking with their primary care provider.

Plan B Alternatives

The drug Ella can prevent pregnancy up to 5 days following sexual activity. With a solution from a medical expert, it is reachable.

Ella is less effective for those with a high BMI, and the manufacturer advises avoiding it if a person is nursing. 5. Paragard

Plan B Alternatives

Specialists with significant authority in women's regenerative health are gynecologists. An IUD called Paragard is implanted into the uterus by a doctor. The copper IUD primarily prevents pregnancy by igniting the uterus, creating an unsuitable environment for conception. Paragard is reachable with a treatment that lasts up to ten years. People can use the device after giving birth and while still nursing because it is almost completely effective.

According to 2015 Research, people can use copper IUDs as long-term contraception, but a doctor should insert Paragard at least five days following unprotected sexual activity for effective crisis pregnancy prevention.

How to Choose Emergency Contraception?

Different types of emergency contraception are available. Some options could be acceptable for one person while being unacceptable for another. When choosing the best crisis contraception, there are a few factors to take into account:

  • Weight: People heavier than average may have less success with Ella.
  • Convenience: Emergency contraceptives are available online and don't require a prescription for those unable to leave their homes. A trip to the doctor's office is necessary to receive a copper intrauterine (IUD) device, which is typically not an option for certain people.
  • Sexual Activity: Depending on the last time a person had sexual activity without using contraception, crisis contraception may be effective for up to 5 days. However, this depends on when a person engages in sexual activity without using contraception.
  • Breastfeeding: Ella's manufacturer warns against using this medication when nursing a child. Bosom milk is unaffected by copper IUDs or Plan B tablets.
