In today's time, most students after completing their schooling decide to pursue engineering as their career option. India has the highest number of engineering colleges in the world and there are several renowned colleges from various states of the country, Karnataka is one among these states. In Karnataka, there are over 542 engineering colleges of which 407 are private and 134 are government colleges. One of the main reasons for having a such number of colleges in Karnataka is its capital city Bangalore which is considered the IT hub of India, where several IT giants from all around the world have their head offices. Here is the list of the top 10 engineering colleges in Karnataka.
1. RVCE Bangalore - RV College of Engineering
RV college is ranked first in this list, it is a private autonomous engineering college in Bangalore. The institute is among the oldest-running engineering college in the state established in the year 1963. Mosh educational association rate RVCE as a center of excellence for its Technical education program initiated by the government of India.
Currently, RVCE has 13 different departments for engineering students and one separate school for Architecture courses, and also a Master of Computer Application department.
Taking admission to RVCE is not an easy task you have to score well in Karnataka Common Entrance exam or either in the COMED-K test, also there is some privilege given to some students by giving admission through Management Quota.
Students who are seeking to take admission to postgraduate courses can take admission based on their GATE Scores or the basis of Karnataka CET test scores.
2. National Institute of Technology
National Institute of Technology commonly known as NITK Surathkal, is ranked Second in this list. NITK is a public Technical university located in Mangalore city of Karnataka. It was established in the year 1960 at that time it was named Karnataka Regional Engineering College but later in 2002, it was renamed to its current name. NITK is recognized as the Institute of National Importance by the government of India along with other 31 colleges which was started after 2008.
The campus of the institute is Suburban near the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea, NH 66 runs between the college campus and serves as the major mode of access in the institute.
NITK offers courses for both undergraduate and Postgraduate students who are willing to pursue Management, Science, and Engineering Programs. At present, there are over 14 different departments in the institute where more than 5,500 students and 26,500 alumni from worldwide are pursuing through these institutes.
Process of Admission
Similarly to many other top-ranked colleges taking admission to NITK is a tough task. Every year thousands of students from several parts of the country apply for admission to NITK but only very few are selected based on their scores in various entrance exams like JEE and local state-level exams.
There is some privilege given by the institute to foreign students by reserving 10% of the total seats under the scheme DASA (Direct Admission of Student Abroad).
3. Ramaiah Institute of Technology
RIT is named after its founder M.S Ramaiah who was an educationist, Infrastructure Visionary, and philanthropist, he started this institute with the Motto ' Service to Humanity is Service to God '. It is a Private engineering college that runs autonomously. It was established in the year 1962 and got affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University.
RIT is a part of the Gokula Education Foundation which also manages several other educational institutions of many other streams along with engineering. Gokula society also runs a charitable Multi Speciality Hospital in Bangalore.
Before 2007 the academic department of RIT was managed by the state government but now it has been declared autonomous for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses which avail these institutes the freedom in framing their schemes related to study curricula and student evaluation.
RIT offers degrees in undergraduate programs like Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Technology, Bachelor of Architecture, and a few more. RIT also leads a program that offers an award for Ph.D. in several disciplines.

4. Manipal Institute of Technology
MIT College is ranked at Fourth position in this list, Manipal Institute of Technology is a private autonomous engineering college in Manipal, it is a constituent Institution of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education which is highly reputed for quality education in various engineering programs. MIT is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Karnataka established in the year 1957. MIT is among the very few institutes in India which are self-financed.

IIIT is managed by governing body developed under the supervisory of government authorities and also by Kris Gopalkrishna the co-founder of Infosys private limited. It was established in the year 1998 with the Motto 'Knowledge is Supreme '.
The campus of the institute is spread over a 9-acre land in the urban areas of Electronics city near Bangalore, Karnataka.
IIIT offers courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students as an integrated program with a combined degree of M.Tech and B.Tech, also for the students who are willing to pursue Management, Science, and Engineering Program IIIT also offers such specialization. At present, over 772 students are pursuing this institute.

People's Education Society University is among the three other universities which were named under PES University of Bengalaru, University, this institute was established in the year 1988. The main focus of the institute is to develop educational areas in streams like Engineering, Management, Law and Life Sciences. PES University offers courses for both foundations in bachelor's degrees and also for Masters and Ph.D. degrees. PES was recognised as a state private university in the year 2013.
PESU admits 40% of its students to undergraduate courses based on their Karnataka CET ranks and 60% of its students based on PESSAT (the university's entrance test) ranks. PESU also admits students under a Management quota, which may not place any merit requirements. It also has a lateral entry scheme wherein students holding diploma degrees can directly enter the second year of study in engineering. Further, after completing graduation, students receive a Bachelor of Technology degree.
Students get admission to postgraduate courses based on their GATE test scores including their Post Graduate Karnataka CET scores. After completing graduation, they get a Master of Technology degree.
7. Acharya Institute
Acharya Institute of Technology, or AIT, is a private co-educational engineering and management college in Bengaluru, India, affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It was established in 2000 and offers eleven undergraduate courses and eight postgraduate courses.
