Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT) is a public-specific school in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (previously Territorial Designing School, Durgapur) was established in 1960 as one of eight such universities, as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal, to advance design training in the country and cultivate national mix. The organization was granted Considered College status in 2003, with the approval of the College Awards Commission All India Board for Specialized Training; it was renamed the National Institute of Technology Durgapur and began awarding degrees under that name. On April 18, 1965, top state leader Lal Bahadur Shastri established the basic foundation of the institution. Starting on June 26, 2002, the institution became a recognized college called Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. From its inception, the institute provided four-year certification programmes in Common, Electrical, and Mechanical Designing. Undergraduate programmes in Gadget Designing, Creation, and Modern Designing were established in 1982-83.
