Celsius to Fahrenheit

In this section, we will learn Celsius to Fahrenheit or °C to °F conversion with example in detain. Before moving to the conversion, let's understand the definition of Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Celsius

Celsius is the unit to measure the temperature. It is also known as Centigrade. The symbol °C (read as degree Celsius or Centigrade) represents it.

Both Centigrade and Celsius are the naming convention. There is no difference between Centigrade and Celsius. The Celsius invented by the Andes Celsius. It is also called Centigrade because the scale defined between 0 to 100 degrees. It is used in most countries.

Fahrenheit

It is also a unit to measure the temperature. It is represented by the symbol °F (read as degree Fahrenheit). The German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit suggested the Fahrenheit scale. It is used in the United States.

Difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit

In the Celsius scale, 0°C represents the melting point of the ice, while 100°C represents the boiling point of water. The absolute zero in the Celsius scale is 273.15°C.

In the Fahrenheit scale, 32°F represents the melting point of the ice, while 212°F represents the boiling point of water. The absolute zero in the Fahrenheit scale is 459.67°C.

Celsius to Fahrenheit Conversion Formula

T°F = T°C * 9/5 + 32

OR

T°F = T°C * 1.8 + 32

Where T is the temperature that we want to convert.

We can write the above formula as following:

°F = (°C * 9/5) + 32

OR

°F = (°C * 1.8) + 32

Instead of °C, put the temperature which you want convert.

Let's see how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit using the above formula.

Example 1: Convert 45°C to Fahrenheit.

Solution:

°F = 45 * 9/5 + 32
°F = 45 * 9/5 + 32
°F = 81 + 32
°F = 113

The temperature 45°C is equal to 113°F.

The following table describes the typical temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Other methods to Convert °C to °F

We can also use the following methods to convert °C to °F.

  • We use the formula °F = (°C * 1.8) + 32 to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. To make the formula easier, follow the steps that generate a new formula.
    1. Multiply the temperature (°C) by 2.
    2. Subtract 10% of the above resultant.
    3. At last, add 32 in the resultant.
Let's see the above steps in terms of formula.
    °F = (°C * 2) - less 10% + 32

Note: It works only for °C to °F conversion.

Example 2: Convert 34°C to °F.

Solution:

°F = (34 * 2)-10% + 32
°F = (68) - 6.8 + 32
°F = 61.2+ 32
°F = 93.2

The temperature 34°C is equal to 93.2°F.

  • In the above table, we have seen that -40°C equal to -40°F. It means both scales cross each other at 40°.
    1. Add 40 to the temperature that we want to convert.
    2. Multiply the resultant by 9/5.
    3. Subtract 40 from the resultant.

Example 3: Convert the normal body temperature into Fahrenheit (°F).

Solution:

Normal body temperature in °C is 37.
37 + 40 = 77
77 * 9 / 5 = 138.6
138.6 - 40 = 98.6

The normal body temperature in °F is 98.6.

  • It is a quick way to convert °C to °F. It does not give the accurate value. In this method, we just double the temperature that we want to convert and add 30 to the resultant.

Let's see some examples.

60°C = 60 *2 + 30 = 150°F (high by 10°)
0°C = 0 *2 + 30 = 30°F (low by 2°)
-10°C = -10 *2 + 30 = 10°F (low by 4°)
10°C = 10 *2 + 30 = 50°F (accurate)
