How do You Convert 0.02 to a Fraction

Decimal numbers

0.02 is a decimal number. Do you not have any idea about decimal numbers? A decimal number is a combination of a whole number and a fraction. A decimal number must contain a dot (.) with some integer value. It can never be an integer. 7.5434, 332.67, and 34.6756 are decimal numbers. For example, in 3.14, in this decimal number, 3,1,4 are integer values.

Why Do We Need Decimal Numbers?

In real life, it is not always possible to represent every quantity in integer terms; we must have faced some situation in which we face difficulty denoting some value as a whole and even cannot ignore the left part as it could result in an unexpected result.

For example, if a carpenter wishes to make a wooden chair, he must make a lot of calculations regarding the parts of the chair. These values need not be in integer terms always. So, we are provided with decimal numbers to deal with such situations.

How do You Convert 0.02 to a Fraction

The above pie graph divides the whole circle into four segments, i.e., Yellow, Blue, Orange, and Grey.

Yellow occupies 5/10 or ½ part of the circle.

Blue occupies 1/10 part of the circle.

Orange occupies 1/10 part of the circle.

Grey occupies 3/10 part of the circle.

Total= 5/10 + 1/10 +1/10 + 3/10 = 1

These divided parts are called fractions. In layman's terms, a fraction can be understood as a fragment or piece of something.

How do You Convert 0.02 to a Fraction?

To solve any question like this, one must move on with the following rules:

  1. Remove the decimal.
  2. Divide the remaining digit with 1XX?., where the value of X is zero (0), and the number of zeroes is calculated based on the digits present in the given number after the decimal (.) and has nothing to do with the digits on the left of the decimal.

0.02 = 002/100 (As there are two digits after the decimal, we divided the number by 100 to calculate the answer)

Answer = 1/50
