How to clear search history on Instagram

Instagram is one of the most tempting social media platforms that keeps a record of your search history. When you are using Instagram, you can search for specific people, trends, celebrities, topics, and many things; however, your search history is stored within the app. If you don't want Instagram to keep your search history, you can clear the previous searches.

Instagram allows you to delete or clear the previous searches, so you can wipe out the search history of all of those hashtags, usernames, and keywords which you do not want to appear in the search history of the application.

Follow the following step by step procedure to know how to clear search history on Instagram:

Method 1

By Using Settings

Open Instagram app:

Open the phone application page in your mobile device and tap on the Instagram app. It is a purple-red-gradient app with a white square camera icon within it. Once you tap on the Instagram app, you will be redirected to the Instagram home page.

If you are not already logged into your account, you need to enter your username/phone number and password to login to your account.

Tap Profile icon:

Once you logged into your account, you need to go down and tap the Profile icon located at the bottom right corner of the page. It is a circular structure with your profile image.

Tap the Hamburger menu:

If you click on the profile icon, you will be redirected to a new page, where you will find a "Hamburger menu" (shown by three horizontal lines) located at the top right corner of the page, you need to tap on it.

Tap Settings:

If you tap on the hamburger menu, you will see a list of options where you need to go down and tap on the "Settings" tab (Shown by the gear-like structure).

Tap Security:

From the list of settings options, you need to tap on the "Security" tab located just below the privacy tab.

Tap Search History:

In the security headings, you need to tap the "Search History" tab located at the bottom of the security page.

Tap Clear All:

If you tap on "Search History," you will be land on a new page, where you need to tap the "Clear All" tab located at the top right corner of the page.

Tap Clear All When Prompted:

When you tap on the Clear All tab, a pop-up will appear with significant instructions. You need to read the instructions carefully and tap the "Clear All" option from the menu.

Method 2

Hiding Specific Searches

Open Instagram:

If you are not already logged into your account, you need to enter your username/phone number and password to login to your account.

Tap Magnifying glass icon:

Once you logged into your account, you need to go down and tap the "Magnifying glass" icon located at the bottom of the page; you will be redirected to the search bar option.

Tap Search Bar:

After now, you need to tap the "Search bar" tab located at the top of the page.

Tap Top:

In the search bar option, the top tab carries all the recent and most searched people, tags, and places on Instagram. Other categories may include the given option:

Tags: It covers hashtags for which you have searched before Instagram.

People: It includes other users for whom you have searched before Instagram.

Places: It involves all the locations for which you have searched before.

Tap and hold the search option:

Once you find the recently searched people, you need to tap and hold the specific search option that may include a hashtag, a location, a person name, etc.

Tap Hide your story:

If you tap on the kebab menu (shown by three vertical dots), a list of options will appear, where you need to tap the "Hide Your Story" option.

Tap Hide when Prompted:

If you tap to hide your story option, a pop-up will appear, where you need to tap the "Hide" option from the pop-up menu.
