Chingalpattu (formerly known as Chinglepet) is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the district of Chennai. The town is 56 km from the state capital, Chennai, on the National Highway 45. The town is adjacent to an industrial and IT cluster.

In the early 19th century, the town was famous for its pottery manufacture. It served as the regional market center, especially for the rice business. The area was also known for cotton and silk weaving. There were also indigo dyeing and tanneries in the area. There was salt production along the shore.

1. Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary
   It is one of India's biggest bird sanctuaries, only 25km from the capital. It's home to various water birds, who build nests on the branches of submerged trees. You can spot them from the bank or watch tower.
   
   The best time to visit is from November to March when most birds are there. You can spot storks and egrets, as well as cormorants and darters, as well as flamingos and pelicans, as well as moorhens and herons. Kingfishers and sandpipers are also common, as well as white ibis and spoonbills. Swans, grey wagtails, and other water birds are also common.
2. Mamallapuram
   Mamallaapuram is a must-see for tourists in Kancheerapuram. It was a bustling port town during the time of the Pallavas, and their chisels gave it a new lease of life.

3. Kandhaswamy Temple, Tirupporur

   The names Poriyur, Yudhapuri, and Samarapuri have been given to Thiruporur. This is the location of the first Lord Muruga temple established on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR). There are numerous inscriptions throughout the shrine.

4. Vedagiriswarar Temple Thirukalukunram
   It is renowned for the extraordinary phenomenon of two eagles coming to the hill temple every day at noon to worship Lord Vedagiriswarar. The village was given its name as a result. On top of the 160-meter-high Vedagiri hill is where you'll find this unassuming Siva temple.
   
   There is a Siva temple in the town below. A sizable tank in the city's southeast is thought to offer therapeutic qualities. Every 12 years, a conch is found in this reservoir, and at that time, hordes of devotees come to take a bath. Laksha Deepam (burning one lakh lights) is also being celebrated now. The town's Siva Temple features a display of the conches.
5. Thiru vidanthai
   On the East Coast Road between Chennai and Mamallapuram, you may find the almost 1,000-year-old Nityakalyana Perumal Temple.
   
   The gorgeous god at this place is Varaha Perumal, often referred to as Nitya Kalyana Perumal. Worshippers of the deity who are unmarried are thought to obtain happiness in marriage.
6. Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Semmanjeri
   According to the Archaeological Department, the present-day structure's age is nearly 500 years. However, locals refer to it as a temple that dates back to 1500. It is situated near Semmenjeri on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), 30 Km from Chennai.
   
   According to legend, a Pallava king who had lost his sight came here to worship Srinivasa Perumal and got it back. Locals still believe that worshipping the Perumal in this location can cure anyone with eye problems. This is also intended to be a Prahtana sthalam for childless and unmarried couples.
   Timings: 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 8 pm.
7. Crocodile Bank
   Mahabalipuram, where the Crocodile Bank is situated, is about 44 kilometers from the capital of Tamil Nadu. This area boasts various crocodiles, alligators, and other reptiles, such as turtles and snakes. The population is diverse, consisting of both Indian and African species. The area is approximately 3.2 hectares in size.
   
   Here, crocodiles are preserved in their native habitat. German researcher Romulus Whitaker started it in 1976 to preserve alligator and crocodile species at risk of extinction. It is surrounded by dense tropical greenery, which gives these reptiles enough shade.
   At the time of its beginning, there were just 30 crocodiles worldwide. There are now 2,400 reptiles in the Crocodile Bank, including 14 distinct crocodile species, 12 different turtle species, and 5 different snake species.

8. Aringar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur
   The Zoological Park began its development in 1976 and officially opened its doors to the public in 1985. The facility covers an area of 602 acres, making it one of the largest zoos in Southeast Asia.
   
   The zoological complex houses 40 mammal species, 20 bird species, and 14 reptile species, and is maintained by teams dedicated to animal welfare, research, veterinary care, horticulture, and sanitation.
   These teams also conduct education campaigns for students and teachers. A butterfly habitat enclosure featuring 200 species of nectar plants has been built on a 2.7-acre area for 4 crores.
   The Aringar Anna Zoological Park is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, except on Tuesdays.
9. Kovalam
   
   On the way to Mamallapuram, a beach village 40 kilometers outside Chennai. Within the village's boundaries, a large Church and a Dargah receive visitors from Chennai and the other villages. Many tourists are attracted by locally organized catamaran journeys and mid-sea diving.
10. Muttukadu Boat House
    This picnic spot is perfect with a lush green landscape, a stunning blue sky, and the sea. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has a boating center and a food court, and the windsurfing regatta is held every February.
    
    You can get a speedboat ride, water skiing, row, or sail, and a boat house on the East Coast road in Muttukadu, Chennai. There's also a backwater area in the Bay of Bengal, about 36 km away and 23 km on the way to Mamallapuram from the city core.
