The Barakar River runs through a valley with steep slopes on either side, and there's a dam built on top of it near the town of Tilaiya. This Dam was built in 1953 and was owned and operated by the Damodar Valley Corporation. It was one of four multi-purpose dams on the river, the others being over the Konar River, the Barakar River, and the Damodar River. The Tilaiya Dam is a 36-square-kilometer dam located in Koderma in Jharkhand. The main highway leading to Patna from Ranchi passes through hills with a beautiful view of the Tilaiya dam. It makes it a beautiful picnic spot for both tourists and locals. The Tilaiya Dam has a total length of 1200 feet and a height of 99 feet. A lovely reservoir is nearby, situated in an attractive location. Flooding control was the primary goal of constructing this Dam. The hydroelectric power plant produces around 4 Mega Watts of electricity. The hydroelectric powerhouse is located on the hillside of Terrace Gardens in Deer Park. Picnic island with swimming facilities can only be accessed by motor boat that can be rented near the Dam. 2. Jhumri Telaiya
Jhumri Telayya is a small town in Koderma, nestled in the beautiful Damodar Valley. It's a fascinating story behind its name- it combines two local names, jhumri and telaiya, which means small lake in Hindi. It's also known as abrak nagri, the Hindi word for mica, which was a big deal during the British era when they discovered large mica deposits in the area. Soon after, they started mining and built lots of mining homes. 3. Urwan Tourist Complex
Urwan tourist complex is located in the Hazaribi area, 67 kms from Koderma. This beautiful tourist complex is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. However, boat rides and other typical water sports are the main attractions of this location. It is always a pleasure to enjoy water sports surrounded by nature. Therefore, you can expect to spend a whole day here. As the name suggests, this tourist complex is isolated from the rest of the world. Maa Chanchala Devi temple is one of the Durga forms. It is located around 33 kms from the district headquarters on the Koderma- Giridih route. It is about 400 feet above the hills. A large cave near the temple has four stone carvings of Durga. It is challenging to enter the cave as the passageway is tiny. The prasad is made using rice from Arwa & Mishri. Sindur use is not allowed. Here, a large percentage of Mundan marriages are solemnly celebrated. After bathing, the devotees have to leave. An insect bite is used as punishment for violating these rituals. 6. Satagawan Petro Falls
The Latehar area is home to Satagawan Petro Falls, a stunning waterfall. The North Koel River was constructed, and the waterfall is located around 16 kilometers from Latehar. A lush forest encircles Satagawan Petro Falls, a well-liked picnic location. The waterfall falls from about 40 feet and creates a natural pool at the waterfall's base. The green area around the waterfall is a great place to relax. The natural pool at the waterfall's base is an excellent place for visitors to cool down. Satagawan Petro Dam is a significant tourist attraction. 7. Dhwajadhari Hill
Dhwajadhari Hill is ideal if you're seeking a place to escape the noise of Koderma. It's located 8 kilometers from the railway station and is a holy site for the area. Dhwajadhari Hill is a popular spot for tourists and visitors due to the grandeur of the festival and Lord Shiva Temple, and it's a prominent tourist spot in the area.
