Udumalaipettai is a town located in Tamil Nadu, and its lush green forests and temples are known across India for their beauty. This town, also known as Udumalai and Udumalpet, is located in the Tripura district. It is located at a distance of 72 km from Coimbatore. The Western Ghats surround the town from the three directions. The town was separated from Coimbatore, the largest city in Tamil Nadu, and so it became part of the Tripura district. It is well known for its windmill technology. It is one of the best places to visit during summer break.

1. Amaravathi Dam

The water in the Amaratvati dam comes from the river named Chinnar, and the dam is constructed over the Amaravathi River. The dam is located in the town of Amaravathinagar, which is at a distance of 25km from Udumalpet, and you also get to explore the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. Initially, the water from the dam was used for agriculture purposes and flood management. As the new technologies came along, the water is now used for generating electricity.

By climbing the steps in the park, you can easily look at the captivating views of Anaimalai Hills and Palani Hills rising high above the reservoir. Also, the Amaravathi reservoir is home to crocodiles who have found shelter in the wildlife sanctuary. This is the place for you if you are searching for a perfect place for trekking.

2. Amaravathi Sagar Crocodile Farm

In the Crocodile Farm, you may find a large population of crocodiles living in the Amaravathi reservoir, which stores the water from rivers like Chinnar, Thenar, and Pambar. There are a wide variety of crocodiles found in this breeding site, such as Mugger crocodiles, Marsh, and

Persian Crocodiles. Crocodile tours aren't exactly like bird-watching or zoo tours, but under expert supervision, you can see hundreds of crocodiles, and if that's not something to brag about among your friends, then nothing else is. These crocodiles mostly survive on fish and small mammals.

Unfortunately, the species of Mugger crocodiles is on the verge of extinction, and therefore, captive breeding has become an important task at hand for the state government. The Crocodile Farm was founded in 1976, and now, it has gained the status of the largest crocodile breeding centre. The primary purpose of the setup of this park is to keep the eggs of crocodiles under supervision until the hatching is safely hatched. 3. Thirumoorthy Hills

One of the reasons that tourists are most attracted to the place is the Arulmigu Amanalingeswarar temple, and the interesting detail about the temple is that it consists of idols of three primary Hindu Gods (Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva) inside it.

The legend of Anusuiya, the virtuous wife who fed the three deities in their toddler form, was given a boon, and the temple is the symbolism of the combined powers of the three lords. Therefore, it is known as Thirumoorthy temple. The temple is situated at the foothills of Thirumoorthy hills. There is also a giant rock which is dedicated to a Jain priest.

5. Panchalinga Aruvi

Also known by the name Panchalinga waterfalls, this place is located at a distance of 3km from Thirumoorthy temple. The waterfall flows from a height of 5m from the water level. The sight of this splendid cascade calms the nerves as the water hitting the rocks feels like music made by nature. The Thirumoorthy Dam is situated adjacent to the falls. You can visit the falls in the months of June and November as the pressure of the water is at its peak. The Panchalinga, or five lingas, are present at the top of the falls.

6. Thirumoorthy Dam

A swimming pool, a boating venue and beautiful gardens are all located at Thirumoorthy Dam, which will definitely be a fun place to visit with the family. In short, the dam is a perfect spot to spend the day with your family. The best part is that the dam is surrounded by gardens of sunflowers and paddy crops that spread across the long fields beside the dam. The height of the dam is 60 ft, and its length is 2km. The primary water sources for the dam are the Panchalinga waterfalls and the Aliyar dam, which is built over the Contour canal.

The dam water is used for irrigation for over 94,000 acres of crop fields. Even after the irrigation, the water that is left is used for drinking in the Tiruppur district. This tranquil place is close to nature, and there is no dearth of recreational activities, but be careful to keep children away from the sand of the dam as several deaths have been reported over the years.

7. Udumalai Tirupati Sri Venkatesa Perumal Temple

The devotees have been visiting the temple to worship the idols since 2018. Being a newly constructed temple, the architecture appears to be modern but still amazing. The temple had gained prominence right after a month of its opening. The Balaji Charitable Trust took responsibility for the temple's construction in 2016, and some developments in its architecture are still in progress. A large number of people go to the temple every Saturday to receive blessings from Lord Venkatesa Perumal.
