Bro Daddy Review

"Bro Daddy" is a movie directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who also acted in this movie. The original language of this movie is Malayalam; this movie was released on the 26th of January, 2022. Some sceneries in the movie are heart-warming, and some lift the story despite being a sensitive topic of the movie. However, the movie's storyline is completely out of reality; it seems like a fairy tale. In addition, they forget to show important plot points until the end of the movie, due to which the overall experience of the movie got decreases. You can take a break anytime during the movie because there are no mysteries or suspenseful moments. The relationship between Mohanlal and Prithviraj is the main point in the movie's storyline because it shows a taboo theme. This movie is an excellent choice if you're looking for a feel-good movie but don't expect too much seriousness.

Some Information About the Writer

As we know, the director of the movie "Bro Daddy" is Prithviraj Sukumaran; he was born on the 16th of October, 1982. Though we are addressing him as a director, he is also a famous Indian actor, producer, and playback singer best known for his hard work in the Malayalam films industry; he also worked as an actor in many Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil films.

Prithviraj Sukumaran was born in Thiruvananthapuram, and his parents, Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran were famous actors of their time. During his early growing years, he studied at Shrine Vailankanni Sr. Sec. School in T. Nagar, Chennai, and later studied in St. Joseph's Boys' Hr. Sec. Sr. School in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, because his family shifted to Tamil Nadu. While pursuing his bachelor's degree in Information Technology at the University of Tasmania in Australia, he was asked to lead in the "Nandanam" movie on the approach of director Ranjith Balakrishna. Fazil, a renowned Malayalam film director, introduced him to Ranjith; under his guidance, Prithviraj successfully performed in the movie, and he decided to take a break from his studies to focus on his career in the film industry.

Breakdown of Script

The concept of late pregnancy being taboo was brought to the film industry by the movie "Badhaai Ho," in which the lead actor was Ayushmann Khurrana. The movie shows the feeling of a person from all three dimensions who is part of a family in which a woman is expecting a late delivery. The movie's central focus is on the genuine reactions and uncomfortable moments experienced by the family members in such situations.

Bro Daddy, the second directional venture by Prithviraj Sukumaran, shows in this movie that late and early pregnancies are not just singular occurrences but are instead like a double-sided sword that is bound to raise eyebrows in our so-called "pure" society. But the writers of this movie, "Bibin Maliekal" and "N. Sreejith," did not write this script as a typical old successful Hindi movie; instead, they showed this as a comical side of this whole slip-off (as the father and son called a duo) and focused more on the dramedy of the situation, despite of the disapproving gaze that the world may cast upon it.

About the major part of the movie Bro Daddy, the main focus is only on the four main actors and actresses of the movie while ignoring the real world around them; it looks like this new approach is working as no one is shocked to know the extent that common people would do when they get to know that an aged woman and an unmarried woman are expecting to have a baby. But the family members do think about what this world will think about this, but not to that much extent to put them in tense because these four people are happy and satisfied with their life and the decisions that they have made; so, what people think and says, does not matter to them and holds no importance to them, which is a good part.

The movie has some merits; it is unable to show the situation of disbelieve to the audience in its world once the characters go outside their house for their business work; these scenarios are not shown as this happens in real life, like outside people start to get apart from you, treats you like you are not necessary to society, and sees you as you have made some serious mistakes. Outside, people were not showing many expressions, as seen in the Badhaai Ho movie. How the journey started in the movie with the embarrassment of the late expectancy of the child to the final acceptance of this reality in society and the excellent schooling of Surekha Sikri to the family in the movie Badhaai Ho; all these contents were missing in the movie Bro Daddy, and this movie shows only characters with stubborn personalities. Furthermore, they even forget to show or explore the equally interesting story of the pregnant mother, Anamma, for a long time in the movie; However, her role is briefly touched on in the climax, but it is ultimately for no reason.

Acting in Movie

The bonding between Prithviraj and Mohanlal is one of the essential things for this dramedy; both actors play off each other's energies, and by their expressions, it looks like they are having a good time while doing this movie together. As both actors are faithful to Malayalam cinema, inspire humor in their performance, and become likable in India, a unique charm is carried by both actors, which is in favor of the movie. Kalyani Priyadarshan is also a good actress; in her limited presence in the film industry, she has made remarkable fame.

Music and Direction

The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, shows a modern mindset and attempts to convey the audience by showing a fairytale-like narrative. However, certain crucial segments of the movie silence opposing views, which may not completely satisfy the viewers.

The music of this movie is given by "Deepak Dev," which was good and in sync with the movie, as expected from Dev's music. Abhinada Ramanujan does DOP, and he also does a very good job with the color of the pallets used in the movie are also very interesting. The spaces these people live in are also exaggerated, which helps you disconnect from reality.

Final Words

Bro Daddy is a family film that is refreshing and uplifting, which is uncommon these days, but we cannot ignore the fact that this movie is out of the reality of this world, and considering yourself as a viewer of this film and a person who has experienced the ups and downs of life cannot relate to the reality of this world.
