Amrita Rao

Amrita Rao is a Bollywood actress and model who mainly got famous for her role in the movie Vivaah. She has been active in the Indian film industry since 2002. She has won the Filmfare award for the best female debutant, the IIFA award, and Stardust Award. She was also part of the National Award-winning movie Jolly LLB. She is such an actor who is fit for every role and was considered the girl-next-door-actress in the film industry.

Personal Life

Amrita was born in a Konkan-brahmin family on 7^th June 1981 in Mumbai (then Bombay). Her father, Dipak Rao, owns an advertising company in Mumbai, and her mother is Kanchan Rao. She also has a younger sister Preetika Rao, who is an actress and model.

Amrita completed her school education at Canossa Girls School, Andheri, Mumbai. Then she was admitted to Sophia College, Mumbai, for a bachelor's degree in Psychology, but she couldn't complete the college because of her modelling offers.

She is married to a famous Radio Jockey, RJ Anmol, and the couple has a 1-year son, Veer. The couple also has a YouTube Channel named Couple of Things.

Acting Career

Amrita started her acting career in the music video Who Pyar Mera, sung by Alisha Chinoy in 2001. Then she made her Bollywood debut in Raj Kanwar's reincarnation-based thriller movie Ab Ke Baras, released in 2002. This film could not do well at the box office, but she continued to get new offers for her acting skills. The next film she got was The Legend of Bhagat Singh. It was a biographical sketch of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, in which Ajay Devgan played the role of Bhagat Singh and Amrita was in the character of his fiancé Mannewali. This movie did not attract many audiences and did business of just Rs. 1 cr.

After two successive low-grossing films, she got another chance to play the role of a young girl in the new-age romantic movie Ishq Vishq, starring Shahid Kapoor in 2003. The audience loved the chemistry between the duo. It was the first hit film of Amrita Rao and the breakthrough of her career. She got Filmfare Best Debut Award for Female and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year in 2004. It was the film that gave her fame.

The most successful movie of Amrita is Vivaah. The public loved her appearance as a traditional sanskari small-town girl, and how she delivered her dialogues touched the heart and soul. It was the highest-earning film of the year. She won Screen Awards in the Best Actress category for the film. Even today, the movie's scenes are meme material for their awesomeness.

She appeared in another music video in 2008 in the song Chalte Chalte Phir. She judged a TV reality show, Perfect Bride, in 2009 and did a TV serial as Kalyani Gaikwad in Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai in 2016.

Love Life

Her love story is like a typical Bollywood film. It is like meeting the people of two poles apart. Anmol was a radio jockey, and Amrita came to his office for the promotion of her film in 2008. When she arrived at the office, her co-star was late, and she was told to wait for him. Meanwhile, she was waiting in the conference room, and Anmol was sent to the area where she was waiting to accompany her. Anmol was also not the one who was supposed to take the interview. This was the first time both of them were introduced.

After that, for a year, they were not in touch. When Anmol moved to radio and planned to start his retro show, he called Amrita for the collaboration. She replied affirmatively and asked him to let her co-host a radio show based on Kishore Kumar and Lata Ji. She is a big fan of Kishore Kumar and Lata Ji, and her favourite song is Gum Hai Kisi Ke Pyar Me. She prepared fondly for the show. This was when they met for the second time, and their friendship started there.

As their friendship progressed, the closeness and understanding between them also increased. Finally, one day, Anmol was doing his live show on his radio station, and Amrita messaged her that she was listening to his show live. He asked her to listen to it for five minutes more, and he played one of her favourite songs, Chandani Raat Me, with the proposal of love. He proposed to Amrita on a live show without naming her and referred to her as my beauty.

In 2014, the couple got married secretly and hid their marriage news. In 2016, they revealed that they were married. Anmol said that they kept it secret to ensure that Amrita's career did not suffer because of the news of her wedding.

Besides films, Amrita is present among the public through her social media platforms. She has a significant number of followers on Instagram, about 1.1 million followers, and the number of subscribers on her YouTube channel is around 129K. On Twitter, she has a massive following of around 903.4K. Recently, she was awarded the Midday IIIA Award for the Best Original Content category on YouTube, along with her husband, Anmol.
