Hema Malini

Hema Malini is a politician and actor from India. She has worked as a filmmaker, producer, dancer, director, and politician, among her many accomplishments. She began her acting career in the Tamil film with the movie "Ithu Saathiyam" in 1963. She worked as a co-actress and dancer in the early stages of her career. Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968) was Hema Malini's debut film as an actress in Bollywood, and she went on to star in several popular Bollywood films after that. She has appeared in movies alongside her husband Dharmendra and many other successful actors of that era like Rajesh Khanna and Devanand.

People quickly gave Hema Malini a new title, "Dream Girl," due to her mesmerizing beauty. She has appeared in several films since 1977. Throughout her cinematic career, she has performed a range of roles. She has appeared and worked in around 150 films to date.

Personal Life

Hema Malini is the third child of VSR Chakraborty and Jaya Lakshmi Chakraborty, a film producer. Hema Malini has had a high Intelligence since she was a child. Her favorite subject was history, and she was a student at the Andhra Mahila Sabha in Chennai. Afterward, Hema Malini started performing. She went through the temple path for her education and only quit after class 12 to pursue a career in acting. Even though Dharmendra was already married with two kids, Sunny and Bobby Deol, Dharmendra married Hema Malini and has two children are, Esha and Ahana Deol. Ahana Deol is an assistant director, and Esha Deol is a Bollywood actor.

When her younger daughter Ahana Deol gave birth to a baby boy on June 11, 2015, Hema Malini became a grandmother for the first time. On October 20, 2017, Hema Malini became a grandmother for the second time when Esha Deol gave birth to a girl. Hema Malini's niece Madhu Raghunath is a skilled actress who starred in films such as Phool Aur Kaante, Roja, and Ananya.

1963

She made her film debut as a co-star in the 1963 film Idhu Saathiyam and then appeared in the film Vanavasam (1965). Following that, Malini starred alongside Raj Kapoor in Sapno Ke Saudagar in 1968. And it was for this film she was dubbed "Dream Girl" in Bollywood.

1970:

She starred in blockbuster films such as Johnny Mera Naam in 1970. She also took on several hard parts during this period, including a widow in Andaz (1971) and an impoverished lady in Lal Patthar (1971). Malini appeared in Sita aur Geeta opposite Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kapoor in 1972.

Malini became one of Bollywood's most successful and leading actresses just four years after her debut. Sanyasi (1975), Dharmatma, and Pratigya are among Malini's 1970 films (1975). This film earned Malini the Filmfare Best Actress Award. She played the character of Basanti in the 1975 film Sholay, which became quite famous. Trishul, Joshila, Khushboo (1975), Kinaara (1977), and Meera (1978) are among her other films during this period (1979).

1980 - 1990

After her marriage, Malini worked in several films, including Kranti, Naseeb (1981), Satte Pe Satta, Rajput, and Ek Nayi Paheli (1984). After that, she worked in several films with Rajesh Khanna, earning her the "Top Film Couple" title in The Times of India. During this period, her works included Aandhi Toofan, Durga (1985), Ramkali (1985), Sitapur Ki Geeta (1987), Ek Chadar Maili Si (1986), Rihai, and Jamai Raja (1985). Malini had worked with Dharmendra on Alibaba and 40 Chor, Baagwat, Samrat, Razia Sultan, Andha Kanoon (1983), Ughavat, and Raj Tilak (1984). She directed Dil Aashna Hai, starring Divya Bharti and Shahrukh Khan. Malini began to devote more time to dance and television work.

2000

After a long absence from the big screen, Hema Malini reappeared in the film Baghban (2003). For her performance, she was nominated for a Filmfare Best Actress Award. Following that, she had a minor role in the 2004 film Veer-Zara. She then directed her second film, Tell Me Oh Khuda, in 2011, with her husband Dharmendra and daughter Esha Deol.

  • Hema Malini began her political career in Gurdaspur, Punjab, in 1999, campaigning for Vinod Khanna (a BJP candidate).
  • In 2003, Hema Malini was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, India's then-President.

  • Hema Malini was also elected as the BJP's General Secretary in 2010.
