Arnab GoswamiHe is an Indian journalist and anchors a show on Republic Media Network. He is the managing director and Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV; before coming to Republic TV, he worked as an anchor in Times Now and ET Now (2006-2016). He has also served in the NDTV for a brief period and the Telegraph. He used to appear on Times Now with his show called "The Newshour". It was a live- debate that used to air on weekdays at 9 PM. His show Frankly Speaking with Arnab also became popular, where he used to interview leading figures from politics, entertainment, sports, etc. Arnab resigned from Times Now as Editor-in-Chief and came up with his Republic TV channel in May 2017. Personal BackgroundHis place of birth is Guwahati, Assam, born on 7 March 1973 in Assamese Family. His father's name is Manoranjan Goswami retired from the Indian Army as a colonel after being in service for 30 years. He also contested Guwahati Lok Sabha Poll but did not win the constituency. Goswami's mother is an author, and her name is Suprabha Gain- Goswami. Samyabrata Ray Goswami is married to Arnab. Ray is a journalist, and she is co-owner of Republic Media Network. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is a member of Rajya Sabha, which has close ties with the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party and vice-president of the National Democratic Alliance, but he later quit all the ARG Outlier Asianet News Pvt Ltd responsibilities. He said that he has formally joined the Bhartiya Janta Party, and it is best in his interest that he should resign from the board. Arnab levelled accusations against Shekhar Gupta that he is compromising on journalism for not speaking against this issue. Maharashtra Power Minister Nitin Raut made a complaint, and Nagpur Police filed a First Information Report against Arnab Goswami. The FIR filed against Goswami included charges like promoting enmity between two groups on religion or race, provocation with intent to cause a riot, and other sections of the Indian Penal Code. Tharoor Defamation CaseShashi Tharoor, an Indian Parliamentarian, on 26 May 2017, lodged a civil defamation suit against Arnab and his media network in the Delhi High court. Arnab, in his show, claimed that Tharoor had a role in the Sunanda Pushkar case. Judges of the High court came down very heavily on the media group. 2. Statements Over KeralitesA 30-second clip was circulating on social media in 2018 where he called a group "the most shameless bunch of Indians I have ever seen". He was discussing the foreign aid for flood-hit Kerala state. Later it was revealed that these remarks were not for the people of Kerala but the "Tukde- Tukde Gang" leftist people. 3. News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) CaseNBSA of India asked for a full-screen apology on 30 August 2018 from the Republic Tv network for using foul language against a group of people at a political rally and harassing one of his journalists. They removed the video clip and account from YouTube. They did not comply with the NBSA order and filed an appeal in court. NBSA again asked Republic media in October 2019 for a public apology after the media network resisted complying in the matter of Arnab accused of standard prohibitions on racial and religious stereotyping violations. He did not follow the order. 4. Palghar Mob LynchingNumerous FIR was registered against Arnab Goswami in connection with the Palghar Mob Lynching case, and he was accused of spreading misinformation and using inflammatory language. 5. Uddhav Thackeray vs Arnab GoswamiA taxi driver and 2 republic tv journalists were arrested from the farmhouse of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on trespassing charges. The issue became a confrontation point between Arnab Goswami and Uddhav Thackeray's Government. His group demanded the immediate release of his journalist from the Government. They also made allegations that the Shiv Sena threatened him with the Channel Republic Bharat and Republic TV blackout. 6. Suicide CasePolice detained Arnab Goswami on the charges of abetment of suicide of Anvay Naik on 4 November 2020 under the Indian Penal code sections 305 and 34. In his suicide note, Naik accused three people, including Arnab, of non-payment of dues as a reason cited for committing suicide, but Arnab was granted interim bail from the Supreme Court of India on 11 November 2020. 7. Television Rating Manipulation CaseMumbai Police started an inquiry against the potential manipulation of selected TRP points. They received a complaint against these activities, and they started their inquiry on that basis. In a complaint, the name of several people cropped up, like Partho Das Gupta, former CEO of the Broadcast Audience Research Councill. Police accused Das broadcasted fake viewership ratings to cheat advertisers. Such allegations were levelled against Republic, more specifically against Arnab. Mumbai Police confiscated the phone and several chats communicated between Arnab and Partho Das Gupta. Police included Whatsapp messaging service in their charge sheet. These chats were leaked to the public that showed a close connection between Arnab and Partho Das Gupta, indicating TRP manipulation. Gupta and Arnab were subjected to severe criticism and condemnation for their malice practices after the messages were leaked into the public domain.
